    Rant Time!!!

Early this morning a customer comes into my shop to look around. He sees nothing but AR's, AK's and other tactical goodies and says to me; "Who needs this stuff besides cops?" I patiently try and explain to him that the AR is an excellent self defense weapon for civy shooters. They can also be used for varmint hunting. He then explains to me that these things can get in the hands of terrorists and we shouldn't be allowed to own them!

Well just coming off the outdoor life article, I snap and tell him that if gun owners don't all stick together, then next on the list to be banned will be your beloved auto loading shotgun! I also attempted to explain to him that the 2nd Amend. isn't about protecting your right to hunt, but to over throw the Govt. That was the first he had heard of that I think.

It is safe to say, that I have lost a customer for life. Today was a good day.

Sometimes I think the (sport shooting/hunting only) enemy in our own ranks is worse than the anti-gunners.
my enmity is only against Tyranny, where ever I find it, wheter in Emperour, King, Prince, Parliament, Presbyters, or People.

I had a really interesting conversation with Jim Scoutten yesterday at the Smith & Wesson winter championships. He brought up something that I hadn't thought of before. Many older hunters don't view their rifles as guns. They view then as tools that allow them to hunt. The disconnect between a gun being just a hunting tool and weapon is really odd. I think it would be obvious to anyone with half a brain that they are one in the same. I guess I was wrong.

Either way, you may have lost a customer for life with that guy but you gained one with your professional and courteous behavior with me when I placed an order today. I suspect that I will be a much better customer than the other guy anyways. Seems like a win/win to me.

Seems I have been saying the following a LOT lately....

One of the worst things that was ever allowed to happen, were for the words "sport", "sporting", "hobby", and "hunting" to ever be assoiciated with the 2nd Amendment in any way shape or form.

When I first start at the machine shop I work at I heard comments like this only a daily basis. I stayed quiet about by hobby and when it was time for the company's summer picnic and clay shoot I brought along an AR. Most of the hunters where apprehensive to shoot it but once they did it instantly changed their opinions on "assault rifles". Being able to shoot the gun, I thought, would have much greater affect than me arguing with them.

People more than likely make the association because their hobby is shooting, whatever dicipline. The amendment simply allows people to have them for the various reasons(including nothing other than protection)

I bet alot of people have a weapon or more and have it for protection if needed and don't even do any sport, hunting or hobby. No issues there. I don't like some language in certain codes that reference repair facility, shooting ranges, etc.

No dig on hunters. Some are like alot of people in others areas of new items, whatever they may be and are reluctant to change, try new things, etc. So when they see a hunter with a semi auto AR, etc., they don't "see" a place for it.

I get the age old question at work "why do you need that?" or "why do you have so many?" --becaue I can. And the old scratch my head and wonder "I'll just come by your house when the sh*t hits the fan"

See, that falls right back in with my other penchant for not liking the word "need". Makes me cringe every time I hear it.

As you know, when you "need" one, you will be grateful that you "have" one. Once again, people's opinion affecting to many things.

Like the amount (lack thereof) of guns used in crimes obtained from gun shows.

And as I have posted elsewhere........

The 2nd Amendment was and is, at its core, about killing people, whether or not people want to admit and/or acknowledge it......... Tyrant leaders, oppressive governments, thugs, criminals, foreign invaders, etc. Killing people is not a sport, nor a hobby.

Since you like for people to tell you what you need and what you don't, you'll love this thread: http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread....=&pagenumber=4

I have never seen a more ignorant group of shooters in my life (not even on TOS).
