it's been great so far outdoors though. it's currently my favourite 'fair weather' optic.
if i had to shoot indoors or at night with a light, i'd pick the T-1 over the TA44.
Just to be clear, it's not like the reticle goes away. It just turns black/unlit. This is a bit different from a RDS washing out to no visible reticle.

While having not used the green, my experience with other ACOGs has been that the black might as well have disappeared. On anything other than a stark white background I couldn't make it out.

understood - it's there, but i just can't see it enough to use it. there's a point where it's lit enough so that it's not black, but not lit enough to contrast with a dark background.

militarymoron, have you used the TA44S indoors any or are you speaking of other ACOG's?

I know my TA11, TA33 and even TR24 were pretty much DOA indoors unless I had a lens cap that allowed me to use them as an OEG, only then were the reticles usable.

    Thanks for the clarification.

I agree the TA44 (or any ACOG, for that matter) is not the ideal indoor optic.

Anyone know of a cap that will work on the optic at the beginning of the thread?

The TA33 is easy to cover as it's got the round extension (anyone know the size? I need to order one of those...) but the slanted front end of the TA44 is going to be hard to cap, no?

I've never seen one that would fit either a compact ACOG or TA44S. One of the things sort of making me think twice about getting one. They make a killflash for them, but no cap. A flip up cap would be cool to have.

I used to just mash my face into the stock a little with my TA11, made the scope go dark and the chevron pretty visible, I wonder if you can do the same with the TA44S.
