CQB Quick Sighting - Green Laser vs. UltraDot Pan AV

I'm not trying to start a one side vs. the other war of words here....Just trying to get info. as to which route I should go in the next step of my DD XV. I've been looking at red dot sights for a while and am considering buying an ACOG 4x32 for 100+ yard shots, but am still on the fence for 1x sighting.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. Should I go with a red dot sight or a Green laser for CQB and shots within 50yds?
    2. I looked at the Doctor Optic and wasn't impressed because of the small FOV. The dot disappeared easily in and out of the window when shouldering the weapon. I saw an UltraDot Pan AV and really liked it because of large FOV, but was wondering how to mount something like this in unison with an ACOG on a flat-top. May be a little difficult. Any Thoughts?
    3. In CQB, what's faster target acq. laser or RD sight? Benefits/drawbacks to either? I know both rely on batteries, so that goes without repeating as does relying on your iron sight abilities(Not easy in the dark).

CQB Role of my M4: Mainly for shooting hogs in the head from tree stand in early morning or LATE evenings in conjunction with my Inova Color weapon light. Secondary CQB Role: Home defense(First choice is my Glock 23C with weapon light and night sights).

50+ yard Role for my M4: Coyotes on the run or varmints. Mountain lion if I ever get that lucky. Target practice.

Currently have my DD XV outfitted with a Troy rail system, weapon mounted Inova Color light, TangoDown vert. grip, and a CAA saddle for battery storage.

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it and need to be knocked off the fence to one side or the other.......

Quality red dot like an Aimpoint T1 (if you can swing the dough) or a C3 if you're on a budget.

Lasers don't replace fundamental marksmanship skills, they are a technology crutch for the vast majority of civ users. For mil and night ops, different story.

    Thanks KellyTTE,
Yeah, unfortunately I'm on a strict budget, especially with a new addition to the family coming along in 7 months. The ACOG 4x32 was hard enough to save for. I'm looking for a VERY economical solution in CQB.
I can understand why an operator would prefer a RD sight to a laser to prevent position detection, but hogs aren't that smart and don't spook that easily with Red or Green light..... I was trying to keep my CQB sight within $100-$200.......

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check out the C3 as well.

My opinion is that visible lasers are great for CQB and home defense (indoor and cramped) other than that the RD would fulfill more of your roles.

I recommend the RDS. Trijicon makes several that do not require batteries, as they're fully powered through fibre-optics which collect ambient light, and tritium.

Seriously, a RDS is the way to go.

Green lasers are extremely dazzling, and quite high on the Neat-O scale, but I've yet to see a truly viable use for one, other than as a backup to your RDS, or a compliment to a magnified optic.

    Thanks guys,
Guess I may be "forced" to get both.....One for primary CQ hunting role and one for home defense role later.......Think I'll do the UltraDot first and complement with a Green laser in a few months.......

Another benefit for lasers as used in CQB: Since they can be mounted much closer to the bore than a red dot, the offset is much less, so you don't have to remember about it while engaging targets at room length.
With a red dot in a lower 1/3rd cowitness, there is usually 2.5" between bore and sight. With a 50 yard zero, you are looking at about 2" offset (between point of aim and point of impact) at 10 yards, going down to 1.25" offset at 25 yards.
Personally, I think a red dot would be more versatile, since I don't see a laser being effective at extended ranges, but for CQB, with training, the laser may be just as good, if not better.

Ok, now I'm curious, all you guys rah-rah'ing lasers for CQB, anytime in a shoothouse or on duty with them or are these just memos from the "Sounds Like A Good Idea" Department? Outside of real life .mil IR use, and the movies you simply don't see a whole lot of 'professional' vis laser use.

So now I'm curious what you're relying on to make these recommendations?

A RDS is always going to be faster than an aiming laser.

Also remember that you have to treat a laser as you would a light (as it leads right back to you). Short burst's followed by you moving offline.
