I have to admit, I also used brake parts cleaner, wd-40, CLP, and compressed air, I guess I was spoiled as our 5 tons were our maintenance vehicles and I was a wrench. 63M10.
My rifle never failed me, I carried an M-16A2, and kept it when offered an M-4, me and that rifle had been through alot together so I did'nt want to let it go. I took great care of that weapon compared to some of the pogue types that would'nt clean their weapon until' it needed it.

I use Militec 1 on My SIG P228, SAR-1 AK clone and my Remmy 700. It works great for me and I live in Central FL where humidity is in the 60-80% range for over 8 months of the year. However, none of my weapons are as finicky as an AR, so my opinion may not weigh as much. I will tell you that the militec-1 oil does greatly reduce cleaning time in both the receiver and the barrel. Barrel cleaning time is now about 25% of what it used to be for me. No affect on accuracy in my Remmy 700 in .270 Winny. Punches 1" groups or better at 100 yards even with some residue in the bore and I no longer need those expensive bore solvents to get the bore clean. I've heard really good things about Slip 2000 EWL and would like to try it as well. If you use a quality lubricant (Militec and Slip 2K being in that grou, among others) and it works for you....I would stick with it.

one of the only times i got rust on my carry weapon was when i used Miltec. i switched to Weapon shield. no more rust. and when i run out of this i'm going to try Slip 2000 EWL.

but again use what works for you. Miltec didn't work for me. YMMV.

    Thumbs up MilTec and Afghan

I used MilTec while I was deployed (2003-04, 2005-06), not being an Infantry type type my rifle would sit for a couple days, about 4-6, and then range time, and cleaning. On a given week, 600 rounds through both my AR and my SAW were not uncommon. Just using the clean and wipe dry I never had an issue, nor did the guys from my section. The powdery dust of our firebase would get into EVERYTHING, but a dry rag would take all that powder off, and they were good to go. I use MilTec at home for everything I own, hell my Semi-1919A4 and my 1911 love it.

Now, I did have a problem with it until I started treating everything on the gun exactly like the instructions said. I clean every peice, wipe down with the MilTec1 and heat the metal, I use the hair drier, once it's heated I usually wipe it down again and let it cool. Then rub it in with a soft cotton rag. On my barrels and exterior parts I will usually do this two or three times to start with then when cleaning after a shoot I'll redo it. Since then I've not had any rust problems. Pluss the cleaning is usualy much easier, powder fouling just wipes off.
that sounds like a LOT of work. I just use Eezox for rust and a good lube like Weapon Shield. nothing wrong with your choice but as I said, that seems like a lot of work...

I build about 2 ARs per month from scratch. No matter what the parts are I clean EVERY part with Hopps #9 Semi-Auto solvent and then I apply Miltec1. The instructions for new weapons are to apply, heat, re-apply and re-heat. I use a torpedo heater in the garage and it usually takes about 5 minutes each heating to get it up to temperature. It takes me about 4 hours total to go from a box of parts to a complete rifle. I have a rifle that i refuse to clean until it fails and I have about 1200 malfunction free rounds through it without adding a drop of oil. I also use this lube on all of my other guns. I don't believe in a quick cleaning because I like my guns looking brand new as long as they can and I am also very hard on some of my pistols and I can't afford to be replacing parts. I have been using Miltec1 since 2001 when they handed it out in my NRA instructor school. It sat in my cleaning kit until I ran out of Break Free and I never looked back. You can wipe a dirty weapon clean in the middle of a class and it will run like you just cleaned it! No lie!

ETA: I apply it to our department shotguns and no matter how much I apply it, because of the heat, cold and moisture in the vehicles, I still get a little surface rust on the parkerized parts. The inside stays top notch.

    I'm not surprised...

the Miltec and the Miltec + Heat looks worse then the control (bare steel). almost like it actually promoted rust instead of protecting from it...

It's not realy a lot of work, just one extra application of oil at the first treatment. After that it's like CoryCop25 says, just wipe it down and it's clean. I'm not sure who set up the Eezox demo pic but I'll take it with a grain of salt. I'll also have to check out their web site because it's a new one on me and I hate the rust worm worse than anything. I've been useing CorrsionX for a few years on my surf rods and reels with excellent results.

CoryCop25 that is an excellent post. It's also what I was wanting to hear. That kind of result is the main reason I finaly decided to add an AR to my collection. After the way my Mini14 came out after I started useing the MilTec1 on it I had to. There is a new product out called FailZero that sells AR BCG's that are treated with some new chemicals that give them dry lubricity and you never have to lube them. The basic BCG is $300.00 and I can treat mine with MilTec1 and have the same service out of the stock bolt and carrier that came with the rifle. Makes ya wonder............

Not bashing Militec. Just thought this might be of interest.
