Vector Arms Polish PMKS builds?

Yup, no chrome on Yugoslavian rifles, that includes SKS's.

Various theories........Yugoslavia did not have enough chromium deposits, another is that since they weren't a member of the Warsaw Pact, they didn't have access to the technology (which I find very hard to believe), and yet another reason is that they wanted their rifles to have a more accurate barrel.....

Who knows for sure?

I have an original Mitchell Arms import from '89. Great rifle, very much "over built". Just clean your rifle and no worries.

The vast majority of the Yugo kits that came in had trashed barrels. They were issued to Bosnian Serb militia (thugs) who had almost zero military discipline, and weapons maintence was probably at the lowest possible priority for them......certainly much lower than ethnic cleansing, rape, and torture. The rifles were turned into the Bosnian gov't. after peace broke out, and kept in storage. They were then sold on the international market, many ending up in Africa, the middle east, and more than a few cut up and sold as scrap to US civillian shooters.

For what it's worth here is my past history with Vector.

Purchased 3X Vector Under folders (one with a cracked receiver). My customer sent it back and was replaced w/o issue.

Purchased 3X V53 series (V53, V53LS and V53SBR). Both the V53 and the 53LS front sights were visibly leaning to the right. Customer fired the weapons and was not able to even come close to sighting in. Both V53’s were returned. Several weeks past by and I was not able to get an answer from anyone at Vector. This resulted in a call to Rex who got to the bottom of things only to find that neither weapon was able to be repaired. I was refunded my money + their return fee.

My SBR finally showed up at the Class III dealer (a personal friend). I visited to see the V53SBR and it appears that the front sight is leaning to the right as well. It’s hard to tell on the short barrel. I asked the dealer to fire the weapon on his next range visit so I’m eagerly waiting the results.

In closing I would never bad mouth another dealer or manufacture but I would advise a word of caution when looking at Vector.

This is my experience with Vector and does not mean that they don’t produce quality weapons; I have heard many good things about them but it is not my experience.

I had Vector build me a post sample AK and forgot to engrave the receiver. They also located the auto-sear hole incorrectly and had to reweld the hole. The sear hole ended up wallowing out but fortunately AK's are junk so it still functioned for thousands of rounds.

I also had a post sample Vector RPD beat itself to death because it was built wrong. Fortunately two times is the charm because once it was rebuilt with a new parts kit it ran fine.

Vector puts out a lot of lemons but they will make right anything wrong.

Or you could buy a kit and have it built up.....all the Polish 7.62x39mm stamped kits that have come in have been PMKMS underfolders.....but if you buy one of them as a kit you just need to buy a standard buttstock and trunnion and have the smith put it together for you like that.

I think you just made up my mind.

I do not want to be dealing with parts kits, buying a receiver, and then trying to find an AK gunsmith who has a waiting list of less than a year. I get enough of this being a custom 1911 owner.

What ever I buy it will be a complete weapon. Right now, it's between two AK's

I'm leaning towards keeping it simple an going with a bone stock AK-47 classic. All I will need is a VT sling and ten mags to be done with it.

If you want to go 5.45x39mm in an AK-74....don't look any further than the Arsenal Inc. SLR-105A1.....as authentic as it gets.

You might also consider a milled receiver Arsenal....yes, more expensive but man, the quality is incredible.

You can get a KISS SA-M7 Carbine for under $800.00, and it will outlast your great grandkids....

You can get Polish laminated stocks for milled receivers also....this is my SA-M7 Classic with Polish laminate....
