I like the TR24G in the LT-135 (high mount) on my Noveske N4 Recce with its standard fixed front sight and using a sopmod stock. From 5 to about 350 yds i am extremely satisfied with the results using this setup.

Having a MRD piggybacked on top of any optic is sub-optimal and incurrs a training cost. It is also redundant on a variable optic with a 1X setting.
For your stated use I would recommend a red dot with a magnifier.
Specifically, an Aimpoint C3 (unless you have a need for NV use or need to dive your gun) with the Aimpoint 3X with a larue flip mount.
It is more expensive than the Burris 1-4 option, but it will provide 24 hour useability for years at a time before battery changes. It will not have a BDC like you can get with the Burris, but out to 300 you really don't need one.
Okay to be fair, if home defense and high stress close range stuff is your primary goal, I still think you'd be better off with an Aimpoint. Then maybe add a magnifier to add some range capability.
I love my TR24, it does just what I want from it, but everything is a compromise, and it is no different. It is a capable optic from contact to 300 yards for sure, but I think of it more as a 25-200 yard scope that can be used at 0-25 when needed and stretch it's legs to get out as far as you need to get hits, but it's not the same as an Aimpoint when you're shooting around your couch at 10 feet in the dark at 2 AM nor is it a precision optic for shooting for groups at 500 yards. It is versatile, but like most versatile things, that results in situations where it is capable, but less than ideal. And that's fine, as long as one understands what those situations are.
But if your primary usage (or most critical usage) for an item falls within one of those "compromised" areas, then maybe it's better to choose another item that is better suited to the intended task.
Imagine if you graphed it out visually -- if someone gave you these graphs and told you to pick which optic would be better for them:
Which one would you pick?
Yes, that is grossly oversimplified but I think it's an decent representation of what we're talking about.
Like I said before... I really dig my TR24, but if I needed to defend my house, inside my house, I'd pick up the rifle that had the Aimpoint first....

Zombies seek out and eat brains. Don't worry; you'll be safe if they attack.
I have both a CompM4s and a Tr24-3g. As mentioned before, the TR24 will do most of what you want. It might be a tad slower very close, but I actually keep it on my all around N4, which is both my HD/workin gun. My compM4 is on a backup 6920. As mentioned, it's going to require some different shooting habits. If you don't do much formal training practice, the Aimpoint is going to be easiest. It's like a video game. Point and bang. It's pretty indestructable too. But with some range/competition/training time whatever your thing, you can become plenty proficient with TR24 or TA44 in the same role. Training will win more than any of these optics.
p.s. For some reason, 1x on the Tr24 with regular FSB drives me nuts. It never bothered me with TA33, TA11. I think it's clear enough that my eye draws to it, but even true "1x" isn't, and it seems to screw with my eye. Other people have no issues with it, so you might try to see if you can find someone with one. I much prefer it on my a low profile.

Tr24 is very fast
while running timed drills single hammers and failures at 7 yards
I found very little variable in times in my hits with the tr24 vs Aimpoint vs eotech
Not all XTR 1-4x have the high mount Fastfire........mine doesn't. I use JP iron sights out on my rail sighted in for 15yds POA/POI for close range on my 3gun rifle.
At 1x the XTR is ALMOST as fast as an Aimpoint to me.
Also consider the 1.1-4x S&B Short Dot and the MeOpta 1-4x. Swarovski has a very nice 1-6x and S&B is coming out with a 1.1-8x next January.

I really never had a problem hitting the "Ivan" pop-ups on an Army range with an M2 (M68) at 300 meters, especially if I turned down the brightness.![]()
