EoTech Help??? Thinking about a 557

After reading countless reviews and debates between Aimpoint and EoTech, I have finally decided that I want an Eotech. However I find myself conflicted over which model I want. I am really interested in the 557 and a Magnifier, although I am not really sure I need that kind of range it would be nice to have the option with the BDC and the magnifier behind the optic. Does anyone have any experience with this particular model or can you suggest another option (in the EoTech family)? Thanks in advance for your help..

The 557 is an excellent optic. I have shot several thousand rounds with one and found that it is very fast at CQ distances and very accurate at longer ranges with the 1 MOA center dot. The major drawback for me is the battery life, which for most people would be acceptable. Eotech is a great company and you should buy any of their produces with confidence.

The built in BDC can be handy but isn't exact. This would be a preference call on your end. This setup is better suited for a 3x compared to most of the other models due to the adjustments being on the side of the optic.

+1. I've been thinking about this site lately too, especially with the rebate and possibly adding a 3x later on.

Look at the XPS line as well. Shorter and more compact. Most issues with EO Techs seem to be with the battery and the transverse battery placement in the XPS line may help alleviate the problems. XPS reports seem to be pretty decent.

The equivalent to the 557 in the XPS line is the XPS3-2 I believe. The XPS 3-0 and 2-0 are the standard EO Tech reticle. (The XPS2 is non NV and the XPS3 is NV compatible).

    good luck!

Oh, so there is a XPS with the 557 reticle? I should've looked harder. Do you happen to know if there is a XPS2-2?

Never mind, I see which one you're talking about now. Less dots but same idea. Thanks.

E-guns do you happen to know if any of the Eotechs other than the 557 have the raised base as well?

yeah, sorry. Did not mean to imply that they were exactly the same reticle but the 3-2 and 2-2 are the same kind of thing with "BDC" like dot.

3-2 and 2-2 are the two that came in recently so they do exist

Just an update, I did decide to go with the 557 with the 4X magnafier and I am completley happy with it. The only thing is that the BDC dots are pretty much useless without the magnifier behind the optic, although they do almost act like an arrow as if to say "shoot here". With the magnifier this model really shines and I am tickled pink with it. Also want to say thanks to G&R Tactical for a great price on this model!!!
