AR-10A2 Carbine postie rebuild 56K ouch.

    Repost from TOS.

Well, I had tried to sell this slug on the EE for months with very little interest. I had planned on selling it to pay off some debt but I ended up doing some things and am now in good shape financially and since there was little interest in it, I figured I would turn it into a project.

Before pics. Since it's already disassembled the before pics are poor ones from my EE ad. NIB 16" A2 Carbine with a stainless barrel. Post ban with muzzle noise enhancer and a set of Cavarms OD furniture.

I was going to go flattop but missed out on a good price on the EE. I don't want to dump a huge wad into it so I decided to semi KISS it and stay A2. I did a bunch of research this weekend and place a couple orders. One to Rainier Arms and one to PK Firearms.

Since I was staying A2 a set of MI non FF midlength handguards was selected since I don't need to stay level with the receiver rail and I don't intend on mounting any sighting device.

I am also replacing the clamp on style FSB with a set screw type with bayo lug. I may change this and go taper pins. (I have done this before) For now I will drill a couple detents for the set screws. I also will bead blast this poor shiny SS barrel.

So far I have the rifle all stripped down and got the brake off the barrel, lucky it was threaded. Dremel did the job in three cuts.

Some notes on disassembly. I used a AR15 DPMS panther claw holding the A2 by the back lug to take off the barrel. Risky for sure but I figured it was worth a try. Sure enough, no problems. Yet, I don't reccomend it. Standard AR combo wrench worked fine. The barel nut was tight but not cheater bar tight.

    Parts for the build.

Slash buffer (had it for a couple years now and have not used!)
Vltor clubfoot mod stock (my favorite stock)
Vortex FS (didn't like the look of the phantom)
MI mid length NONFF handguards (need to modify to work in gas tube area)
KNS gen 2 pins (cause I like to waste money)
A2 FSB with bayo lug, set screw mounted
    TD rail covers

OK, all done. On to the after pics.
    Muzzle brake after

    Barrel ready to blast.

    Upper and lower.

    All done.

Minor dremel work to get the MI railed hand guards on

    New muzzle device

    New FSB

    New grip

    New stock

    Nice carbine!!!

Good point. I had to use some "Quick Steel" putty (you can see th tube of it in the last pic) to fill the grip in to keep the push pin detent spring working.
