    I'm hooked

I'm hooked on precision shooting after getting some decent ammo and taking my Remington LTR to the range Sunday morning. I am a die hard AR fan and that is mostly what I shoot. Well they will be left in the safe for a little while.
I had been shooting some 150gr billistic tip just playing around and was never impressed. I had some Winchester Ranger 168 gr HPBT match that I have been saving for years and decided to shoot some of it. Now I'm starting to see what some good ammo will do in my rifle.
Will try and get back out this coming weekend and have a little more fun.

This is a 5 shot group 100 yards, I think I pulled the 4th shot that went high and right

Thanks for that. I'm nearly hooked on the idea and, if so, will start with a 700 SPS-V. I feel good about my 6.8spc but always knew a 308 was on the horizon. I'm still torn, thinking about an AR-10 or one of the many projected piston variants on the horizon. For the last few years I've been of the mind that: if it's not likely to be banned, I don't want it. So I've been naturally focusing on autoloaders and 20+ round mags.

However the 700 heavy barrel becomes more and more intriguing. I threw one up on my shoulder back to back with various semi-autos, and it felt lighter. With the 308's recoil, I assume I'll be able to work the bolt fairly quickly while I get back on target. And saving a grand is helpful, too.

I notice you have separated scope mount bases, and from what I've read the one piece is pretty popular...especially with a 20 MOA offset. However, it seems to me it would be much easier to reload with the style you bought. Any further thoughts on your project are appreciated.

    Agreed

The sense of accomplishment is special when you can reach out at most reasonable ranges and place one single bullet exactly where you want it on your chosen target.

At some point that perfect shot isn't good enough, you dig deep cuz you know there's more within you, the ability and desire to do better. Read the wind, the distance, the terrain, the target intel, Making sure your rifle is just right, getting in, getting out have become my personal drug of choice. So addictive.

I found this site only a few months ago and became wrapped around the M4's. Even purchased a Noveske and commissioned a Stag build, and rebuilt my other M4's based on the list, No regrets.

After about 4000/5000 spent on M4 stuff I realized that the long gun and the solitude that comes with Counter sniper/sniper stuff is what I need.

Your rifle is awesome and your groups look good. Have fun and most importantly learn what your rifle is teaching you.

    I just got hooked, too.
I love shooting AR and pistol, and for the most part I limit myself to 2 pistols (G22 and 27)and my work ARs. I have an M4 assigned to me, and a personal AR that I can't carry (even though its set up perfectly for my assignment)
BUT, I just bought a friend's Rem. 700 PSS (sweet deal with some good extras). Took it out to the range- came with 100 rounds of Black Hills 168gr BTHP- and sighted in. I immediately became a fan, and I'm probably hooked.
I have been, and will continue to, troll the precision forum for more info.
The advice above is worth exactly what you paid for it.

    Understood

I agree. Im blessed my resident post is way out, the S/O issues me 40 to 60 rounds of match grade 168 per month. I also load and shoot at least 100 to 200 rounds per month on top of that. I'm encouraged by the SGT's and Sheriff to shoot while on duty. 308 and as of last month 338LM

    SIDE NOTE.
The county I work for in Ca. Is preparing to file bankruptcy!. They say they have enough money to get through March then it's shutting down. Ive been wearing a uniforn of some sort since I was a cub scout, maybe it's time for a break.

If I do get layed off Im going to buy a season ski pass at the local ski park and ski/board all winter while drawing un-employment.

FYI if you start loading Im having great luck with VARGET 44.5 grains COAL 2.860 in my custom 700.

I like the extra room the PRI 2 piece tactical base gives me for loading the rifle. I know the 1 piece is often thought to be a better mount and it could possibly be, I could not answer that question myself as I don't have experience with both mounts. I bought these mounts when I was using a different scope and may get some lower ones to bring the scope down some.

I used to have a LTR with the detachable mag years ago and sold it to a friend, if I still had the detachable mag I would opt for the 1 piece mount most likely.

Hope to start reloading some time after the first of the year but I still need to get all of the equipment and do a lot of studying on that subject. I would like to reload 308, 6.8 and 5.56.

Thanks guys for all of the replys.

Will have an update this weekend after hitting the range again.

Ok thanks, I saw it on the Remington LE website and thought it was LE only.
