Depends on the weapon (barrel length), ammo, suppressed/un-suppressed, etc.

Do a quick search. You should find a few around the site. Just see if they have the same or smaller numbers than the ones this has. If Im not mistaken, I found this on the site as well and thought Id keep it as a reference.
Thanks for the heads up on the sizes, Grant and GotM4.

Thank for all the replies guys,

This gun is a dedicated long range tactical competition gun. I'm having a custom Krieger bbl made for my DPMS LR in a (basically) .243 win, but the cartridge neck is lengthened for shooting long 115 gr. DTACS, I'll be shooting slow powders and will have a 2" longer gas tube on a .750 dia. bbl (and an adjustable gas system) 24" long, NO suppressor, but a good recoil compensator.

So it should be easy to copy the hole size from the LR-243, but I'm doing something else......

I hate that heavy BCG flopping around in the AR10 system, the add'l weight and .7" longer travel, really make the guns hard to shoot, so......

I'm lightening the bolt carrier to 12 oz. (from 18 oz.) to match carrier weight of a standard AR 15.

I have a 243 WSSM comp gun now (that I love) built on an AR15 chassis, so I know the lighter weight stuff will work with a cartridge of this size and powder capacity.

Anyway, just trying to get my hole size close for my bbl maker. I'm mixing AR10 & AR15 technology. Lots of variables and unknowns here and this forum always seems to have the best technical advice I've seen.

    Thanks!

Can anyone talk to the distinction made between barrel diameters? Meaning, why does the same barrel/gas system length require a larger diameter port for the .750 diameter barrels vs .625 barrels?

There's a tacked thread in the Tech Section FAQ thread, and these diameters track close to what's posted in there, at least the .625 data. Except there's a big delta between Colt and LMT on the 10.5" barrels, this chart is in the realm of reasonableness.

It seems that ports for SBRs are dependent upon whether or not the user will run a can.

Most any reputable gunsmith that is cutting a barrel for you will know where the GP goes and what size to make it.
