Why? I always use 5-40 button head screws all around on my TGs now - I Helicoil the roll pin hole on MOE and USGI TGs. USGIs even still hinge down when you do this.

Seems like much ado about nothing to me. That little spring and detent work great, and don't require hunting around for some damn tool, I have 28 of them in a magazine.

USGIs still hinge with a bullet tip, no change when you use button heads in place of the roll pin.

MOE or Enhanced TGs don't hinge anyways.

Horses for courses, I guess - I like them, but it's a personal choice kinda thing.

I use the Magpul MIAD trigger guard, Magpul aluminum trigger guard, and the Gapper. The MIAD seems to do the best job of protecting your finger since it is a seemless transition. On the aluminum version I can still barely notice that area. The Gapper works well too but I think variations in lower receiver will make it hit or miss to work for you. I have a Colt SP1 where the Gapper actually sits lower than the receiver, rendering it useless.

Interesting. As you can see from the photos above, it positions well out from the "ears" on my M&P15. Hence my rounding off the edges. Feels good now.

I'm going for necropost of the day here.

My rifle is built on a Spikes Tactical stripped lower and has a Magpul MOE trigger guard. Grip is a Magpul MOE +. The MOE trigger guard fills "the gap" from front to back, but because it slopes upward at the back my middle finger still rubs against the bottom of the ears. This is not my rifle in the picture, but note that the upward slope of the trigger guard leaves the bottom of the ears hanging out there by themselves. Rob_S originally posted this pic a few pages back. My rifle is exactly the same.

I used this rifle in a two day rifle/pistol course over the weekend and this nearly rubbed my finger raw, even through my Mechanix gloves. Needless to say I'm in the market for a different trigger guard. The Wilson Combat trigger guard which is seen a few posts up caught my eye. By the time you figure in the price of the trigger guard plus $10 shipping it's more than I'd like to spend on such a part, but if that's what I have to do then that's what I have to do. I see we have a couple of folks here who were using it when this thread was current. I wanted to find out if anyone else is running it and what the overall consensus of it is.

    Other alternatives I've considered:

The gapper. I'm not sure if it would on my rifle with the MOE trigger guard in place. If the gapper will work with my existing MOE trigger guard then that would be the easiest and least expensive solution.

MIAD grip with built-in trigger guard. I tried one of these in the past and the grip to trigger guard transition was very comfortable. Unfortunately it appears Magpul only offered this setup on a MIAD front strap that also has the bump between the second and third fingers and that's a deal breaker.

Stark grip. I would prefer to keep my existing grip so this one is out except as a last resort.

Besides the Wilson Combat trigger guard are there any other alternatives out there I'm not aware of? I don't care if it's metal or polymer. I just want it not to rub my finger raw.

Thanks to anyone who can help.
    Steve

Use the standard Magpul aluminum trigger guard.

You get what you pay for.

Does it not recede up between the ears leaving the bottom of them exposed like the MOE version does? I would have thought they were the same shape.

ETA: Earlier posts in this thread state the problem still exists with the aluminum Magpul TG.

I will point out that what caught my eye about the Wilson Combat TG is how it flares out under the ears to completely cover them.

I'll double check mine and let you know, but I don't believe that is the case.
