    Add-On 1911 light rails

Which add on 1911 light rail would you use? The two I am looking at right now are the Dawson and the Novak. Does anyone who has done this have any pictures or suggestions they would like to share?

There is some great info in these two threads:

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either of the two you mentioned.
Hilton Yam had the Dawson put on the guns Nighthawk is building for him under license.

No experience with the Novak model. I put the Dawson on my duty pistol in the sumer of '02. Installation was very well done and they (Dawson) turned it around within a very short time frame.

I ran the pistol with the Dawson rail as my duty pistol until late last year. No issues in any manner with the mount - none. I can whole heartedly recommend it.

How did it fit in standard 1911 holsters when the light wasn't attached?

I am thinking about doing this to my Springfield Armory TRP, and I still want to be able to carry it.

Surefire makes a good one that is user installed and non permanent. It is very sturdy. My military unit installed the Dawson rail but the drilling of screws weakend the dust covers and some of the frames cracked. Springfield Custom shop wont even install drill type rails for that reason.

    Really???

That is wild. I thought the Marines were running the Dawson rails on some of their 1911's, and I haven't heard of any issues... wow.

Thats the rail, it is pretty good. My unit ran Springers with the addon Dawson's before they started making the built on rail. It was awhile ago and maybe they were inproved, but it kinda makes sense that the drilling would weaken the dust cover alittle.
