Reduced, I prefer tight patterns to 200 more FPS.

In ball, el cheapo green box Remington 1 oz. rifled slugs from Wally World. My 870 loves them. 4-5" groups at 100 yards through a smoothbore are hard to beat. Dropped plenty of deer.

I like regular, but reduced is good to go too.

    Use Federal 00 buck, 12 pellet w/Flitecontrol wad at 1325 FPS, stock #PFC157 00.
I also use Winchester Ranger RR 9 pellet 00 buck, at 1145 FPS. Stock #RA12005. That's mainly in my SxS. The pumps get the Federal because there are recoil reduction stocks or pads on those shotguns.

For slugs, Brenneke K.O. at 1600 FPS. Stock #SL-122KO.
Winchester "Super X" 1 oz. Foster type at 1600 FPS. Stock #X12RS15VP. (The Walmart special kind.)
Winchester Ranger RR 1 oz. slugs for the SxS at 1200 FPS. Stock #RA12RS15.

I've read somewhere that higher speed (dead soft Lead) Foster type slugs do not penetrate as deeply as the reduced recoil types of Fosters.
Anyone know if this is gospel or BS?

Wish I could remember where I picked this up.
The info stuck, but, the locale, duhhhh, not so much.

Reduced recoil. There's a noticeable reduction in recoil from the standard loads, and more uniform pattern density.

I use regular buck. I have used the reduced recoil and would not hesitate to use it if needed. The reason I'm still using the regular is only because it's what I've trained with the most.

Plus the shotgun I use is an auto-loader with a decently low felt recoil anyway. I have a pump that served the purpose for years, but I've now moved on to an auto-loader.

Reduced Remington slugs and 9 pellet 00 in my 8" Tromix Saiga. They function perfectly and shoot well, plus my local police supply gets the 25 round boxes direct from Remington, which helps on cost.

I'd like to try the Federal sometime though.

I like the extra power 12 - 15 pellets offer.

Remington express magnum #4 buck and remington buck hammer 3" at 1500fps. They are easy to get locally abd cheap. The slugs group ok, but I have no sights just a bead so its hard to tell. The buck patterns nice and with a lot of density.
Sorry, I come from the world of long range. Forgive my ignorance.

Fiocchi reduced recoil 00 Buck, both in my HD Mossberg and my wife's HD Win 1200. Significantly less recoil than a standard buck load.
