    16" BCM Recce builds

So, I'm definitely going with BCM, but undecided on the SS410 barrel.
Should I go 1/7 or 1/8? Recommendations? Opinions?

    Thanks

No 16" is the generally a Recce rifle. An 18" is generally a SPR.

It really depends on the type of ammo you want to use with it (45 gr, 5gr, 62gr, 72and up) and what do you want to use it for? As a overall useful rifle I would go with a 1/7.

In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

I went with 1/7, although even with a 1/8 you will get 2 full spins out of a 16" barrel.

    I'm having the same problem.

Can't make up my mind which one.

Were I made of money then the 1x8 twist black stainless w/ LaRue rail would seem the 'ultimate' mid-length Recce. Pictured here.

I'm looking for a 200 to 400 (to even 500) yard rifle, and plan to be using the 64, 69, 75, and 77gr bullets exclusively.

I've got a Bushmaster 20" V-Match in pre-ban configuration I'm working with now, it's too heavy to run with, and offers little accuracy improvement over just a basic M4 style upper. This upper seems to me more of a light machine-gun upper than a DMR or Recce upper.

Every time I get an upper over 16 inches long, I bemoan the loss of it's maneuverability, so I'll learn to live with a little less velocity and get a 16" upper.

But 1x7 vs 1x8 vs stainless vs chrome lined... still debating.

When I built mine I had to go 1/9 because that is what was available in chrome-lined heavies at the time (stupid me, deciding to do a build after BO gets elected, duh!). Not too big a problem for me because I am slinging 62 and 64 grain most of the time and don't plan on going above 68 grain unless the 77 becomes readily available and cheap.

I prefer the 1/7 twist over most anything else. Just in case I need to shoot the really heavy bullets, I can.

I like the 16" middy with the Larue 12.0 for a recce build, but that's just personal preference.

I would have preferred the 1/7 or maybe a 1/8 but at the time it was my only option; not wanting to wait months for another barrel. For now the 1/9 gets the job done and I can always swap it out later, should I decide I need to for heavier bullets.

BCM has my BFH 16"/12" LaRue Recce upper back in stock, you know not to entice you or anything

You guys are pretty free with my checkbook! I am waiting till the new year to begin another rifle. I am building a lightweight M4 for my wife and BCM will be a major "sub-contractor".
