Gold dot 5.56 and .308 win???

I haven't read much on either of these rounds. Does anyone know of test results on these cartridges properly conducted?

I'll bet you that these are more or less re-badged trophy bonded bear claw stuff

I'd bet you but I don't want to take your money. TBBC is a unique projectile with a solid copper portion at the rear of the projectile. Gold Dot is bonded but does not have the solid rear portion.

TBBC is definitely superior to Gold Dot through barriers.

The TBBC might have a slight edge over the gold dot but I would not say its "definitely superior". Check out this thread.

DOCGKR test show that it has a slight edge in retained weight but the penetration is equally good if not better. I would say they are equals and the gold dot cost less than half as much.

Unfortunately that snippet from Dr. Roberts only shows the Gold Dots, not the TBBC in head-to-head comparison. It's interesting to note on page 1 of that thread (here) that Troy rated the TBBC well and didn't even mention the Gold Dots.

For what it's worth, all of that information is also available on this site in the stickies and on AR15.com; I made the topic over there to consolidate information so we wouldn't have to keep bouncing between sites (a convenience thing).

Au contraire mon frere. The second load listed in those results is the 62 grain TBBC.

Do you think that might have anything to do with the fact that the 64 grain Gold Dots hadn't even been tested yet when that was written?

...Is it really? LE223T3 = 62 gr TBBC? Did not know! The TBBC puts on a better showing than the Gold Dots, even if only by a little...

Fair enough... The things you learn, eh?
