Say what you will about the man and his family, I personally think his heart is in the right place. Sure him and his family are a bit rough around the edges, but they are making a legit living and their show puts a lot of people to work and bad guys where they belong. I will also give him credit for doing something the American and Mexican authorities couldn't or wouldn't do. He captured the serial rapist sexual predator Andrew Luster, and had him put where he needed to be.

    This one?

There was one episode done in Colorado where his younger son got into it with a landlord of a property they were searching. The landlord started to get the better of him before the fight was broken up.

Does this mean that the gun grabbing democrats system (I hate them and wish death upon all socialist/marxist pricks) actually can somehow rid the streets of illegal weapons? It seems that in Hawii, there are none to be feared.... otherwise dog would be dog meat!
Don't believe the hype. One of the hospitals on Oahu, HI, the island where most of the show is filmed is constantly on "the real ER" because they have such a high gun shot wound patronage. Even with extremely strict gun laws, and police that hang out at local shooting ranges looking for those evil high capacity magazines (HI limits mags to 10 rounds), they still have a lot of shootings.

Dog is not a real Hawaiian. He is just using the Hawaiian culture for profit.

I agree. What he did in Mexico was good stuff.

I have never watched the show, but Dog came into my jurisdiction on a bail jumper once and was really cool to the cops who worked with him. I'm not so much into the pseudo-biker with a mullet thing personally, but different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I've owned both Harleys and Ducatis, and have never felt the need to leather up like a member of The Village People, but I digress...

In real life, Duane is a very humble guy who freely admits his felon status and his mistakes of the past. If only every convicted felon could find a way back to the right side of the law.

Yes, you wouldn't ever see me or anyone I know recover fugitives they way Dog does; and IMHO, he is lucky it hasn't been worse -- but I could say the same for every cop I know who has arrested someone scary, and for virtually every warrant I have served. It can always be worse -- and we get VERY lucky more than we would ever care to admit.

Lastly, yeah, this show is NOT my cup of tea. Of course, I don't care for procedural police dramas, either. I figure I can leave that stuff at work. So, I don't watch it.

Yet, this show was a favorite for a dear friend of mine, who ultimately died of cancer. She liked Duane because of his attempts to atone for his past, and his being a Christian. Her dying wish was to meet Duane Chapman, AKA Dog.

According to him, he took the name Dog because it is God backwards, and he "is as far from being God as a person can be."

Well, with her being bed-ridden and his being in Hawaii, a personal meeting was not going to happen. After we pulled some strings in August, Duane called my friend at her home and comforted her as best he could. He gave her his personal cell phone number and they spoke daily, until she died on November 15th of this year. When she died, Duane told me he lost a friend and I thanked him for having been gracious and having treated her so well, before she shuffled off this mortal coil.

If you don't like the show, as I don't -- don't watch. Tactically, Duane Chapman is not the most safe fugitive apprehender, to be sure. He may even deserve the disparaging comments some have made about him -- including those from the family of the person he killed decades ago. He is not a perfect person, to be sure.

Still, when Duane Chapman learned a dying woman wanted to meet him, the genuine care he extended and personal affection he developed for her earned him some real props in MY book. Perhaps the word hero is a bit overplayed, and I don't really know why he agreed to do it -- but glory and fanfare certainly were not his motivation. As such, I remain in his debt for bringing some joy to my friend's life before it was over. He may have been a scumbag countless times in his life -- but to my friend, he was an angel -- and that, IMHO, is more important to me than how he appears on the boob tube.

Yet, this I know for sure: Never presume to know anyone based on their TV persona. Duane Chapman may, in fact, be a complete idiot. He knows something about charity, though -- and IMHO, that's more meaningful than impressing people on the Internet, or anywhere else.

Heck, if perfection is the standard for getting into heaven (or even as a member of M4C) -- ain't no one getting in.

Merry Christmas and may all of us be blessed more than we deserve!

Thanks for sharing this story with us. He does have some redeeming qualities. Being a Christian man and comforting someone like that he is to be commended for helping her in her final days.

Let me say this. Having worked in that profession for 4 years where I wracked up just under 800 apprehensions I have to wonder how he is even successful. I was very low key unless I was in an area that needed more of an official presence. I didn't drive a black Burban, wear my body armor over my wife beater, etc...etc.. I carried a G22 discreetly along with OC and an ASP.

In that time I was involved in one shooting, one suicide by cop and numerous brawls. How he continues to have good luck and no one getting hurt simply amazes me. Especially when he runs around like a jack ass in Denver where lots of people have guns. When I watch the show (usually when I have late night insomnia) I just chuckle and critique the shit of those idiots because I can't take them seriously.
