I would pass on the VTR and go with an LTR. You wont have problems finding aftermarket parts for them. The VTR doesnt fit in all stock like a regular round heavey barrel does. As for suppressed the flashhider mounts to a round barrel alot cleaner. On my 700P the vortex flashhider looks like it belongs there, mounts flush.

    choice of rifel

for me I would go for a 5R milspec.they shoot really good for a factory rifel.and even cost a little cheeper than a VTR I think.and they will shoot a 168g and 175g bullet with little reloading.they will even shoot Factory match ammo right out of the box.for me I think the tri barrel is just a sales thing.but hey who am I to say.I love a remington.haven't seen one that want shoot yet.and with remington cahmbering them in a 223 and 300wm now I think they are even a better choice.and from what I can tell most FFL dealers are letting them go for around 1000.00.but hey this is just me opinion.and as the other gent said they are easier to fix up than a VTR.

This. Triangle barrel just reeks of gimmick. If you want more than a regular 700 go for a 5R. I had one of those and it was almost on par with my custom 700.

    Triangle barrel is ultra lame.

Disclaimer: I have no hands-on experience with this rifle. Having said that, people who have shot this rifle tell me that accuracy suffers with the triangular barrel after shooting a few rounds. My poor advice is to pass on this one.

Thanks guys, I started out liking the VRT, but after alot of reveiws and talking with people, I have switched to the 700SPS Varmit. I like the varmit due to the wide forgrip. although it is not a free floatin barrel nor is it bedded, it does have a heavy barrel. later down the road i can always bed it and shave down the stock to free float it. budget is a issue and want a total package with optic for under 1000.

I would get a Remington 700 sps varmint or a 700p for a little more or even a 5R for a little more. Then use the rest of your cash on a good optic, your limiting factor.

    SPS-V, SPS-tac, LTR, P, 5R.

    No triangles.
