Avatar, and how it made me feel like a kid again.

Let's keep this on topic and not get it locked.

I took my dad(mid 60's) and my two kids (12 & 9) to see Avatar in 3D. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after watching the Alice in Wonderland previews I was hooked. Mind you, I haven't seen a 3D movie since the days of the paper red/blue glasses. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the new glasses. My dad (an early Vietnam War Veteran) was completely blown away and compared it to seeing a color movie for the first time. He agreed it was spectacular. My kids loved it and spent an hour after wards giddy and excited for Alice in Wonderland, so they could see a 3D again.

Avatar was MIND BLOWING, for me and all who attended! I never felt as immersed in any movie, ever. The clarity and colors, were so vivid, and to take a hit to my man card, it made me a little teary eyed.

It took me back to my childhood and seeing movies at the theater for the first time. I'm in my early 40's and this movie made me feel like a kid again. I believe it was the most incredible movie I have ever seen.

Was it the best story, or script? No, it wasn't. Was it the best cinematography? Absolutely, without any doubt. If you haven't seen it, please take the chance, you'll find it's quite worth it.
I know there are blatant Liberal messages, I don't care to discuss them. Let's keep this one in the spirit of the thread.

I do indeed think Mr. Cameron has created a revolutionary masterpiece of epic proportions in regards to movie making, and I would love to see more 3D movies. I'd go as far to say I want to see every movie in 3D now. I'd love to see Terminator: Salvation in 3D. Or I am Legend in 3D. Imagine SPR or BHD in 3D.

Yep I agree on every point you made. A good, but not groundbreaking plot, and some of the best cinematography I have ever seen. I was going to go see it again today but decided to see Sherlock Holmes instead. (Mainly because my female companion has a thing for Downey Jr.

I think the neatest effect(and very subtle) were the bugs buzzing around in all of the jungle scenes. The effects/scenery were so good you didn't notice them as being cgi/special-effects. The flying scenes we very good. Agreed the script was pretty simplistic/predictable(could have been re-titled 'Dances With Na'avi'). Also...blue-chicks w/ tails are HOT!

did you watch it at an Imax theatre? i'm hoping to catch in in Imax 3D.

I was wondering about taking my kid to see it. She's only 6...too much for a 6 year old?

To me the CGI looked so fake I might as well watch a cartoon.

But I know what you are trying to say, I had a similar experience the first time I watched Jurassic Park.

Interesting observation Steyr. Most people, me included felt the CGI was the best we have ever seen with the pissible exception of the Na'Vi eyes.

If you can take it as pure escapist cinema...forget anything Political....it's a hell of a trip!

I'm 60 and can recall going to see "Star Wars" in 70mm way back when. This was similar.......THAT groundbreaking.

The flying scenes reminded me of sitting in the front seat of a Cobra. THAT brought back some cool memories.

I saw it in 3D last night and it was AMAZING. Everyone in the theater stood up clapping at the end of it...I would give it a 5 out of 5.

Going to re-see it at an IMAX this week.

6 is a bit young, but I doubt she would not enjoy some parts.
