Like the secondary message that the savages in Afghanistan really do want live in the 7th Century? For me, that message really rang true.

I just wish Cameron could would have done character development beyond one dimensional archetypes.

True, but the actors did a really good job with their characters though!

That is exactly what I thought. Every other 3D movie I've been too, it was just a cheesy gimmick. This was something so much more.

I took my dad(mid 60's) and my two kids (12 & 9) to see Avatar in 3D. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after watching the Alice in Wonderland previews I was hooked. Mind you, I haven't seen a 3D movie since the days of the paper red/blue glasses. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the new glasses. My dad (an early Vietnam War Veteran) was completely blown away and compared it to seeing a color movie for the first time. He agreed it was spectacular. My kids loved it and spent an hour after wards giddy and excited for Alice in Wonderland, so they could see a 3D again.

Avatar was MIND BLOWING, for me and all who attended! I never felt as immersed in any movie, ever. The clarity and colors, were so vivid, and to take a hit to my man card, it made me a little teary eyed.

It took me back to my childhood and seeing movies at the theater for the first time. I'm in my early 40's and this movie made me feel like a kid again. I believe it was the most incredible movie I have ever seen.

I enjoyed too. Get's a 9.5 on the 10 scale from me....Clearly needs to be seen in it's 3D Imax format to be fully appreciated. The "big corporation wants your resources and will do what ever it takes to get them" message didn't bother me, nor did I see it as "liberal" as it's happened all through out history. Maybe a bit heavy handed in the message, but it's not like there is a lack of historical precedence for it. Just sayin'

Back on topic, The CGI/special effects were the new standard, and as simple as the plot was, it worked perfectly well with the movie for me. I thought the casting was quite good also, with (as is usually the case in a Hollywood movie..) the 'bad guy' being one dimensional but still well acted and effective.

Word has it that due t the fact there's now enough theaters to do it, and enough interest from the paying public, that they are going to convert various movies into the 3D format, and re release them. So, you might get to see SPR in RD yet.

I keep hearing this whole "secondary message" thing, and it's pretty annoying. Why can't people accept that wars are historically fought for two things territory and resources. It's part of the human condition. Why do so many people take offense to references of the human condition???

    edited to add:

I have been thinking about the CGI since I last wrote. It seems that I am one of the only people that I know that is still critical of the CGI. Myself and a friend that is an engineer. I spent some time thinking about what it is that still doesn't do it for me, and I came to it. Even in Avatar the animators haven't been able to master cloth, and it's relationship to a body. As an artist this drives me insane, and once I realized that this is what was constantly jarring my ability to enjoy the CGI, I decided that I have to go back and see this movie again. THe reality though is that they still haven't mastered the way cloth, and clothing interacts with movement, and until they do this, I am going to be critical of CGI.

Very true. I can't even imagine the math involved in the simple interaction with clothing and a body though. We are not talking simple X,Y,Z coordinate here we are talking hundreds or thousands of points of interaction at any given time, all constantly changing. I remember not that long ago when Fire and moving water were the issues. Obviously they have that figured out.

I think it's because WE are the ones that seem to be picked most often as the ones taking. Not that we don't, but so many others are overlooked.

Blue chicks are discusting. The human chicks were nice though.

    "Blue chicks are discusting. "

Once you go blue, you won't know what to do.

I think the folks that need to be concerned are the actors themselves. With the advances in cgi there will be no need for their 'physical services'. All that will be needed will be someone to do the voice(at a greatly reduced salary).

    Just a thought...

... you know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."
