    Col. Robert L. Howard 1939-2009

Born in Alabama, resided in Texas.

    Someone you should know.

Linked article on my blog- www.kyledefoor.com

Was reccommended for the Medal Of Honor 3 times for 3 seaparate incidents. Could only receive it once due to the reg that Congress passed around WW1 timeframe.

Words aren't enough. Greeny Beanies be proud. Much respect,

    KD

Yesterday, we were sitting at the Christmas dinner table. During the conversation, one of my relatives said "There just aren't any role models for young kids these days."

I disagreed, and mentioned Col. Howard and his deeds.

There are many, many roles models today. A lot of them are humping a ruck in Afghanistan, patrolling a street in Iraq, or watching a trail in the Philippines.

Prayers and thanks to the Howard family. Thank you for giving this country another noble son.

Get John Plaster's books - SOG and Secret Commandos. Excellent books and both talk of Col. Howard's exploits.

And, from Chicago of all places, the Pritzker Military Library has fantastic podcasts with 90 minute interviews with MOH winners (win is not the right word)... Here is one with Col. Howard - he discussed trying to swim a flooded river to rescue a woman in San Antonio - when he was 80 years old!!!

The world is a lesser place without Col. Howard. We can be thankful that he was on our side!

    "Recipients" is the correct word.

Thanks for the link and the book recommendations!

RIP Col. Howard. Being from the same state is the closest I'll ever get to being as awesome as you. You're truely a Man among Men.

I was privileged to meet and spend quality time (in a bar of course) with Col. Howard and 33 other MOH recipients last year at a Medal of Honor Foundation event that my company's owner sponsored. To say I was in heaven talking with these guys doesn't begin to describe it!

    Rest peacefully, Col.

That was fantastic. Sad to see it shamefully only got four replies when originally posted, obviously many of us missed out on the first go round.

I remember in Plaster's book that Howard ran alongside an NVA truck on the Trail and threw a claymore into the bed of it, clacker in hand and detonated the damn thing just as the troops in it were about to shoot him!

    Brass ones gentlemen..........
