Nice! Must have been a great day for the both of you (and a great memory to have).
My father taught me how to shoot when I was 6yrs old also. He bought me a Daisy BB Gun and we went down to a local lake and shot cans on the bank. He was a Cpt in the 82nd then and really not around that much. He taught me the basics about shooting but he never taught me to hunt. I asked him to take me hunting not long aftr that and he said he couldn't shoot anything that wasn't shooting back at him. He had spent 2 tours in Vietnam. I couldn't quite understand it back then. He ended up retiring and we never hunted together once.
When my son was born, he's 13 now, I made a promise to myself to make sure he learned everything I could teach him about shooting and hunting. Actually both my kids, my son and daughter, have been shooting and hunting with me since they were 3. They both love being out in the woods or on the range. There are quite a few times when I look back on things that I wish my father and I had spent more time together shooting and hunting.
In a way I'm envious Templar.

I'm very envious, and glad for all.
Templar, I am curious. I know your father is no stranger to firearms. What was his favorite to shoot today? Did he like the older pieces, or have more fun with the select-fire goodness?
It looks like you had a terrific Labor Day.![]()
