differences in acog 1.5x16 and 1.5x24

First, I am scope-stupid. The only number I understand is the 1.5x part. I noticed that on trijicon's websight it shows the 1.5x16 as having a much larger field of view. Going off that I would think that I would like the 1.5x16 better.

Since I dont know what to really look for in an optic but have shot and liked the 1.5x optics I simply dont know how to compare the 2 types of acog and decide which is better for me. Can anyone give me some input as to the difference between these scopes?

BTW I did try a search and only got praises for both but no real explanation as to what the difference is.

Regarding the first part of your post, the number after the x is the diameter of the objective lens...so the 1.5x16 is a 1.5 power optic with a 16mm objective. Variable power optics are described similarly, a 1-4x TR24 with a 24mm objective is called a "1-4x24" scope.

I used to think FOV was everything but looking at the specs of different ACOG models suggested that eye relief and FOV had an inverse relationship in that line up. I've got some months now with a TA-33 and is relatively small FOV has not been a problem compared to the nice trade off of very forgiving eye relief and eye position. That probably didn't help worth a squat.

That is exactly what I was looking for.

Just need real world comments on what the stats actually do, and that was good to know.

So in layman's terms, the bigger the objective lens diameter, the smaller the FOV and the greater the eye relief?

Or did I mix that up?

I'm not an optics guru but I'm pretty sure you got that wrong. LOL
When it comes to ACOGs I'd say the shorter the eye relief the larger the FOV. I think that would hold up for ACOGs.

    It's gotta be a 1.5x huh?

I am leaning twords 1.5x but honestly am open at this point. I have enjoyed shooting the 1.5x's that I have shot.

I have been extremely pleased with the TA-33 which is a 3x. My uses are range and hunting and although the 1.5s are impressive, not as versatile for my uses. Search on ACOG here as there is a huge amount of experience with them on past threads.

My local Gander Mountain has a red chevron TA33 set up on a Red Gun left out on a counter for easy pawing - I'm hugely impressed with it, and an ACOG is very likely going to be my first high-end magnified optic purchase.
