Agreed. One of my company Gunny's had a saying which I still use:

"If you don't care enough about it to put an armed guard over it, you obviously don't need the sumbitch."

We run into the dining facility since it has this uber high tech multimillion dollar roof. Nobody inside had a clue what just happened. 10 minutes later, the "big voice" comes on and announces that we have "incoming" and pandemonium breaks out. People (mostly female I hope) were actually screaming as they ran FROM the facility to get in the concrete bunkers. We tried to tell them they were safer in here, but the "herd mentality" had already set in.

I look around to make sure nobody left any weapons behind and decided to return to my room. A little while later we hear a boom. Maybe another rocket, or maybe EOD earning their money.

It has been over three hours and no all clear given, and the folks are still stuck in the bunkers. This has to be the worse IDF drills I have ever seen from a unit.

The good news is that the internet is faster since everyone else is offline .

Oh well.... Happy New Year from Iraq!

The rocket probably was fired unconventionally, i.e. from the back of a truck, and didn't break the minimum altitude to set off the warning system, or it was fired from outside the AOS for any of the radars on the camp if there were any.

You should see the funny shit that ensues when a freezer door slams and someone runs out to the bunker thinking it's an IDF attack or you have outgoing 155mm and people clear out of their buildings and run to bunkers.

Anyway, happy new year. Hope you make it back safe.

Happy New Years!!! Be safe over there.

Your post brings back memories. I can't tell you how many mornings I woke up to "all clear blaring out of the loud speakers". I never did hear an incoming warning.

im glad no one was hurt also. while in iraq, i got to see some of that as well. its kind of funny actually. everyone runs around like a chicken minus a head for a while. then they relax and carry-on with what they were doing. this one army guy left his rifle in the chow hall once. i remember thinking, "oh man, he may have to throw rocks at the enemy."

Are you over at Liberty? I was heading from out MSS to Northend Pizza one day when someone decided to lob a couple at Victory. Believe they actually hit some pods or chow hall or something, but recall there were some foreign nationals killed. Pure chaos over at Liberty.
