Do you still need a pic? Sorry I did not follow up earlier -- was off to some new years eve festivities and have not gotten much back to the forums except the health care topic since.

I don't have a pic off hand but could probably get one with my iPhone once I find where they are on the shelves

    If you wouldn't mind.

I'd rather see everything before I order, and when I do if I can order from somebody that participates in the forums I'd prefer to do that.

Does your rifle have the foldable 5mm pencil refiller front sight?

With any luck I believe the HK416 sights do line up with the pencil front. Troy makes a 416 stubby rear sight, which would be a whole lot better (and easier to mount a little forward) than mr. popsicle sight.

You could also use the loop of shame (available in two lengths from blueforcegear), or make your own (even more shameful, and cheap to boot, but hey, that 1897 needed a sling and I was cheap).

If I understand this correctly, you want a single-point sling on this rifle, so that you can sling it with the stock folded, so badly that you're talking about installing a sling attachment point here?

I would highly recommend a good, modern adjustable two point sling like a Blue Force Gear Vickers CAS.

Offers the advantages of a two point, with the ability to switch shoulders easily like a single point.

I'm still gonna need to come up with an alternative rear sling point even with a two point sling. If I try and sling it as is folded, I basically have a Swiss mousetrap waiting to spring open on me.

Yep, and that is pretty much the same location on the original 550/551. I suspect you have the same concern that crossed my mind a few times.

How solid is that rail to be a load bearing point for the rifle, especially given that is where your sights (which shouldn't move) are.

Be nice is SIG made a eye bolt cross pin like HK did for the MP5K/SP89. But even if they did it would be in a less than ideal location. I might just have to strap around the thin part of the shoulder stock.

I would discard this premise as I see no benefit to it other than making some attempt at concealing the carbine under a large jacket, to which I see no benefit or would simply choose another firearm.
