    Ejection pattern

there was a thread here that shows the correct ejection pattern of a rifle.... but it was old so I decided to make a new thread.

14.5in cmmg barrel. According to cmmg they have a .073 gas port
    H2 buffer is being used
    m16 Bolt

my rounds are ejecting 2 o'clock. is this alright? I read somewhere that it should be around 3:00-4:30. though they do pile neatly 6feet away.

I don't know if it matters but... my gas rings are old. it doesn't fall when you invert the bolt but it won't pass the table test. (bolt facing down. then let it stand on the table)

    Question

I'm having the same problem. Posted my info on the older thread but got no answers so hopefully someone can help me too...

BCM BFH middy upper (Troy Medieval FH installed)
    BCM BCG
    H2 buffer
(Used to use the spring that came with my LWRC M6A2 upper. Noticed it was shorter than spring in my DDM4. Switched it out with an unknown brand that I had laying around. Weapon kicks harder than my carbine DDM4!)

Rifle kicks brass out 1-2 o'clock. All the brass I've fired have the same small, consistent dents in the center. Shooting today the brass started consistently ejecting at 3:00. The upper and LPK are new, so are BCM's overgassed?

I don't really consider mine as a problem since... i've been shooting it for quite sometime. I just decided to check again today since I upgraded to an H2.

I do use a DNTC compensator. milspec gasports are suppose to be somewhere in the .062 range. I know mine is overgassed at 0.73 but since I changed to H2 buffer plus my BCG is an m16. It should have made it better? no?

or is this alright? or do I reallly need to make it go 3 o'clock?

Ejection pattern can tell you some things about how the gun is functioning, but there are a lot of different parts interactions that will influence ejection pattern.

Unless the brass is ejecting to 1:00 or less, or 4:00 or more, is bouncing brass off your nose when shooting lefty, or you are experiencing stove-pipes or spent/live double feeds, don't fret over it.

    Yes Sir, I agree.

I think often times folks get obsessed with ejection patterns in an attempt to get ejected cases to land in one spot.

If the weapon is ejecting fine, leave it be. Over time the pattern will vary anyway as the weapon is broken in, or if different brands of ammo are used.

Since my weapon now ejects at 3:00, then it is fine? I am not worried about brass piles, more concerned about wear and tear since my middy seems to kick harder, even with a H2 buffer. Even my cousin, with very little AR experience, noticed the difference when we shot my BCM and DDM4 at a range last week.

Its my understanding the "ideal" ejection pattern is between 3 and 4:30

Exactly. I have Springfield 1911 that sometimes throws brass at my head (no limp-wristing here), but the important thing is, it's throwing brass.
