Rockport "Ellington's" are the most comfortable dress shoes I've owned.

I have some Clarks that I wear for work, but second the suggestion of Cole-Haan.

Yea I was looking at the Johnston & Murphy Shoes. I was just worried that they were made in China. I just can not bring myself to pay $150 - $250 on a pair of shoes made in China. Same goes for boots. I have a pair of 511's that I paid $120 for and then realized that they were also made in China. Like the Chief said what isn't made in China anymore.

I do like those ECCO shoes. I want to try a pair on.

If you are going to actually work and stand (trade shows, floor sales), Rockports.

If you are looking for a dress shoe for office work or playing dress-up at the wife's orders, Johnston and Murphy - and frankly buy the most expensive pair that you like the looks of and can almost stomache the price of. The bare minimum is that they be re-sole-able. $100 shoes you can't resole get expensive over time, $150 re-sole shoes can last a lifetime, and if they are going to last a lifetime, you might as well get the $250 pair with the 'trampoline' system.

Be sure to put WOOD shoe trees in them when you aren't wearing them.

Allen Edmonds are nice but overpriced for what you get IMO.

Johnston & Murphy are the best mix of quality and price. You can often find them at Filene's for a nice price.

I have a pair of Mephisto shoes which are fantastic but are an investment, they have also lasted 15 years.

Bass or Bostonian are nice alternatives for less money than either.
