    Vortex Strikefire <OR> Bushnell Trophy MP

    -Hello to all-

    Before today I was set on getting a Bushnell Trophy MP Red Dot Scope until I ran into the Vortex Strikefire Red Dot Scope at the local sporting goods store. As I'm sure there are those of you that own one or both of these scopes and some of you that know someone with one of these scopes, I would love your option. I like the fact that the Strikefire has a better warranty and is also capable of being used with NV. I plan on mounting one of these scope to the Ruger SR-556 that I would like to purchase after I get my tax rebate. Thank you for your input.

    I picked the Trophy MP over the Strikefire because the Trophy was much brighter. I read a decent amount of feedback on both, and saw that the brightness of the strikefire was a common complaint. In fairness, I have not actually used the Strikefire. Just know that the weight was on the heavy side, but it was a decent optic for plinking and what not. I eventually decided to save my money and buy the Aimpoint H-1, and I have no regrets.

    The Strikefire weights in at 7.2oz whereas the Trophy MP weights 15.6oz. I found that Vortex makes a Kill-Flash ARD that should help with sunlight if found to be a problem.

    Sorry if I seem like a dick but... don't waste your time or your $$$ with either optic. You can do much better with only a little more cash invested. Please answer;

    1) How much are you willing to spend?

    2) What role do you want your optic/weapon combination to serve in (home def, range toy ect)?

    Roger that. Consider also the Burris SpeedDot 135 and the Millett Zoom Dot. You may want to look into the Pride & Fowler Spec Ops 33mm RDS as well. It's a little more pricy but it's NV capable. For me it was a pretty tough and durable optic that survived a tour in the GWOT getting the hell beat out of it in a Humvee for 12hrs a day. Get the "Tall mount" for it, though. The Burris and the Millett will run $200.00 to $250.00 each and will include a mounting ring of some sort.

    I have a had Strikefire for 1 year now. It has been on one AR, a Sig556, and a AK. I have had no brightness issues at all, and she is still running on the same battery. It currently sits on a 7.62x39 AK gas tube, and holds her zero just fine. Its no Aimpoint or EOtech but for $150 its not bad at all. I have shot a AR with the Bushnell ACOG look alike and really like the T dot reticle. In that price range both of those are good choices.

    The couple Strikefires that I looked at were unimpressive. First one was DOA. The dealer let me take the second one outdoors to try and the sun could easily wash out the dot. We are above 4000 feet elevation so the sun is pretty bright here.

    I ended up getting a used Aimpoint and am very happy with my purchase.

    If you intend ono using the optic on a work gun (which I am assuming by your need for it to work with NV), I would highly recommend against your two choices and point you toward something a little more robust and proven.

    If it's just for personal paper-punching and dirt shooting with personally owned NODs, disregard.
