I'm thinking the same thing. Although in the book the name is Hitchcock, we all know who it is supposed to be and to have him framed and kill himself seem a little disrespectful.

Now, if they wanted to make the killer named Lon Hoochie - then that would be OK.

Regardless, Point of Impact was one of the best books I've read and this one may be worth reading.

Yeah, those where the parts of the book that were slow for me, when he played PI.

Shooter, the movie made from Point of Impact, was on TNT last night. Not as good as the book, but not bad for Hollywood.

I understand my friend Patrick Sweeney is mentioned in the book.

Regarding Thunder, I also got the distinct impression it's possible Hunter is getting a few $$$$ for mentioning brands? No doubt, a uber experienced combat shooter the likes of Bob Lee would go with a Kimber and a DPMS.....just sayin'.....

    Anyone else get that feeling?

I actually have the movie right now on loan from NetFlix. I delayed renting it because I was afraid of how it might ruin the book for me. All and all though, I'll agree with you, it wasn't bad. I didn't mind how it had been updated to the present, but I guess I could have done without the liberal (big oil bad, contractors bad theme). The only part that didn't work for me was the casting of Pena as Memphis (and that scene where he is wearing a Che shirt pissed me off as well). Also while the battle at the cabin was well done, I wish they would have kept it like in the book where Swagger and Memphis decimate the Salvadorans one by one. All and though, a decent film adaptation of the book and while I personally loath Danny Glover - he did an outstanding job.

Yes, as were lots of people. Also lots of references to specific equipment, but then that's part of what makes Hunter's books (usually) a good read.

Recent Michael Bane interview with Stephen Hunter about I, Sniper, and a new Bob Lee book with the working title of Dead Zero.

I've only read PoI and half of this one - seems like Hunter has completely lost his ear for dialogue. All the down-home folksy BS when Bob Lee speaks now is out of character compared to the first one.

    Not impressed so far.

One of his books he holds off a company of infantry with a sniper rifle and a mini-14... yeah right. After that I had little interest in his books.

Black Light was probably my favorite one so far. I own the last three - 47th Samurai, Night of Thunder, and I, Sniper. Each one has its moments, but honestly they don't stand up by themselves - but when you look at them each as chapters in an already unbelievable life, they merge together to flush out the character. I get why Swagger went through all the trouble to track down and return the sword, and understand how pissed and guilty he felt about what happened once it was returned. Yeah, the final fight was kind of weak, and I felt it was actually better explained in Night of Thunder than in 47th - but it progresses the story and makes you realize that although life may have shit on you in the past, like having to have a steel hip replacement due to a sniper's bullet, may turn around and be a benefit.

I don't know - I'm just one of those people who can read fiction and take it as just that - fiction.
