History shows that ya gotta make money in order to stay in business. I'll bet those shows make money and the history shows don't.

watching some truckers bitch at each other over inconsequential bullshit on the side of a road with dramatic music in the background is the new "educational."

The issue isn't science. It's politics. Many key political figures both here in the US and in Europe have risen to power at least in part on the wings of the Great Global Warming Scare. Their embrace of carbon emissions standards, cap & trade, etc. has become not only a plank of their platforms but a genuine pillar of their popularity (and financial backing).

Look at how BHO is handling the GWOT. Even if he was consciously oblivious to the realities pre-090120, he's shoulder deep in it now. But for him to do the right thing, for him to make the hard decisions, would alienate many of his supporters who still expect him to pull a rabbit out of a hat and make the entire radical Muslim community love & respect us as brothers.

The climate issue is no different. For him to come out and say, "Well, looks like that whole Global Warming thing was wrong" would lose him tons of support from the people to whom he feels most beholden. Half would think he was stupid for believing mere scientists rather than a Nobel Peace Prize winning ex-VP, and half would see him as an idiot who campaigned on a false premiss.

Given a choice between political failure or national ruin, what do you think most politicians would do?

You should not prepare for "the new ice age," because nothing of the sort is going to occur. The scientific consensus steadfastly holds to the data as we know it - global temperatures will continue to warm far out of the norm.
Really? Which planet do you live on??

Here are some recent quotes from Gore (whore) and Obama:

Gore speaking at the Oxford at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment, sponsored by UK Times.

"Just two weeks ago, the House of Representatives passed the Waxman-Markey climate bill,” Gore said, noting it was “very much a step in the right direction.” President Obama has pushed for the passage of the bill in the Senate and attended a G8 summit this week where he agreed to attempt to keep the Earth's temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees C.

Gore touted the Congressional climate bill, claiming it “will dramatically increase the prospects for success” in combating what he sees as the “crisis” of man-made global warming.

NOTE HOW THEY ARE BOTH CONCERNED ABOUT THE CLIMATE BECOMING WARMER (NOT COOLING). IF THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT "CLIMATE CHANGE" THEY WOULD NOT MENTION THE WARMING PART OF IT ALL THE TIME.

Right. It is all about the mighty dollar and face time in the media.

We broke some records in central Texas late last week.

Whatever you want to call it the green movement in general is nothing but a means to an end. That end is equalizing the world in wealth and far reaching government control. This is just the excuse these people give for doing so.

Its the same old argument just wearing new clothing. The same arguments have been made before anyone alive today was born, and when this method fails there will be something else to dupe people into the progressive ideology.

Al Gore isn't a scientist, so I'm not sure why this is relevant.

    2. I'd posit that there is no 'science' in climate change. They can not run experiments and hold something constant. They are limited to observations, and past readings. And we know what they do with the past readings. It is being a bit picky, but I think it is an important distinction. No one is going to run out of a lab with a breakthrough that everyone else can replicate.
The findings of climate scientists clash with your political beliefs, ergo they aren't really scientists. This is frightening and absurd - the world science is not high-school chemistry, it is in no way confined to "running experiments," nor has it ever been. You've successfully denied the status of 'science' to more than half the disciplines you'll find in any given university science department. Kudos.

Earth. The one that is steadily warming at an unprecedented rate.

    A pair of politicians.

Gore touted the Congressional climate bill, claiming it “will dramatically increase the prospects for success” in combating what he sees as the “crisis” of man-made global warming.

The phrase is "climate change" - you may have even noticed the mention of the "climate bill" there.

Global warming is one element of that change, and the key driver of it. As I said.

The argument I was responding to boils down to the belief that those conspiratorial greenie commies are altering their language in the face of a cold winter. This belief is, to be blunt, stupid. The first climate change (yes, those are the last two letters of IPCC) report was issued twenty years ago, and the panel existed 3-5 before that.

Of the many ridiculous ways to criticize climate scientists and environmentalists (it's a political conspiracy! etc.), whining about the language used is the worst. Because anyone with a search engine can find out the evolution of the language involved - but some must be too lazy to do so.

I am not going to claim that "climate scientists" are not real scientists, though I understand the point he was trying to make.

However, the findings of a few climate scientists clash with his political beliefs. This is not a universally accepted notion like Al Gore would have us believe.
