Well, if it helps any, the Military considers Surefire lights disposable items. It has NOTHING to do with the durability of the item IMHO.

I was able to buy a SF scout light from a guy at the Indy 1500 for $125. It had some scrapes on it but it worked fine. Yes, this is the light with the MSRP of $425.

He lives near a base and buys up the "disposable" items the troops get to take home with them.

To me, this light surely isn't disposable and calling a suppressor disposable doesn't deter me from it- that's for sure.

I was told that the Vltor suppressor is so cheap partly because of the main tube- the supplies were supposedly gotten on the cheap- like REAL cheap and it's a simple design that works.

Remember who owns/backs Vltor and that might tell you a little something. Vltor is no slouch.

A shame this appears as though it will not work on 10.5" uppers.

    Cool Can- understand the price

I understand why they can sell this at $300.00 and still make a very tidy sum of money. First off buying tube in bulk is cheap, say somthing you can weld so at least 316 (303 does not weld well). Any muffler shop can buy that pretty cheap by the truck load. My father in law owns a huge muffler shop so i asked. (www.spintechmufflers.com) So then you have the machined sleeve for the reflex style can that it is. Once you have that made in bulk I bet they pay around twenty bucks or less for one. I went out and had some stuff threaded for a compensator I was trying to make. It cost me twenty dollars and that was only a prototype run of about twenty. So imagine how much the price would go down with production of say thousands!

Then everything else could be done in a metal shop. The baffle design is more than likely single piece, like the old HK style. Cranking those out fast and cheap is easy, say 16 guage steel? again the father in law makes a lot of stuff on huge break presses and industrial equipment like that all the time. The only part that sucks is the programing, everything else is cake.

Then the front con-caved washer is just simple and cheap tooling, and takes seconds to produce a dozens.

I bet there cost on these cans is only about $80-$90. last step is have someone who can weld a little tig for you, and bam! Durable can, time tested design, solid construction. Not anything crazy or super high speed low drag, but good and well priced for the everyday shooter.

LOOKS DARN GOOD TO ME VLTOR!

    Barrel length? don't worry

again do not worry so much about the length. The first time I saw reflex cans was some canadian company. Cant remember there name but they also made a standard mount for there cans that either reduces the size of the reflex blast chamber design, or simply makes you reflex can more like a standard can. So more than likely some adapter or modified mount will come in the line up.

hes right. his estimate of raw materials lines up and the rest of the mean cost is ate up by inflation and paying welders. a good welder is worth his weight in gold. t. its no titanium uber can but it will work for some and thats the demographic they are targeting. i hope they make one that will work on a 7mm if so my elk rig will get one too.

What state is it legal to hunt elk with a suppressor? We can't use them in MT.
Really glad to be done with MSAR.

I love VLTOR products, even though I haven't been able to justify buying one.

I think their new suppressor might be my first. Under two conditions.

    More than -30 dB reduction.

    Minimal POI shift.

Then it'll be the suppressor I practice on and my Ops Inc. 15th will be my primary 5.56 suppressor.

(Then my soon to be added YHM Phantom Stainless 5.56)

Somebody should PM me a couple top tier 6.8 SPC suppressors.

ETA: I have purchased a VLTOR Forged MUR-1A. I will review how it works with my setup once it arrives. Should be here in a week or so.

ETA: I wrote this post forever ago.

I never bought the YHM Can, and canceled my order on the VLTOR MUR.

I really dont care about 1-2 DB's between cans. I simply want an affordable suppressor that is QD and works "well enough".

Im not usually the type to buy into the "works well enough" ethos but when it comes to suppressors i cant justify laying out 800-1300 bones for one.
    Agreed.

Been researching this and voila, a thread.

Apparently Vltor has a lot of demanding govt business and this got pushed back, but is reputedly still on the to do list.

You can hunt a lot of states with suppressors. A good rundown is found here: http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/vi...php?f=64&t=928

It's legal in MO now, FFL required, C&R will qualify, and then all NFA rules apply, etc. It's been asked in Jeff City and the MO Conservation Department has replied there's nothing in the regs that prohibits it.

Taking the first step for MO residents means getting a C&R, with the potential discounts and direct ship of some firearms, it's worth the $30 every three years.

Anybody who's dealt with Magpul lead times should have no problem with Vltor getting these out when they do.
