Brought home a bolt action rifle chambered in .338 Lapua

I was at Jensen Arms the other day and they had received three of the difficult to find Remington 700's chambered in .338 Lapua and sold two online within 5min of listing them and had the third on their shelf just calling my name. I was planning to build a .338 Lapua off of a Sako but at about 1/3 the price this was a hard one to pass up. Deciding on what to go with as far as stock and optic go but it should end up being a pretty solid performer when it's all done. I'm looking forward to sending some 300 grain lead down range.

(Note: not my pic but it's the same thing)

About how much does one of these babys go for on the street...assuming, of course, you can find one!

I've been meaning to ask, but I didn't want to look like a dumbass on page 10 of the 700P disscussion over on the Hide. Yours is a 700P and there are also just 700 versions correct? Your mags don't match up with the AI mags, but do they match up with the new Remington chasis systems (or can we even know?) ?

Those Remington 700 338L are like Corvettes to the European Ferraris.

What glass are you going to put on it?

400 rounds of 338L for the MD class- they should let you enroll for free because of the cost incurred by the rounds- both financially on your wallet and physically on shoulder.

Did they say if and when they will get more?

Yeah they do. I had been meaning to build a 338LM bolt but wasn't planning to start anytime soon until I happened in one day (I live local so I'm in there pretty frequently) and asked Ray what they had that I had to buy and he immediately grabbed the last one they had one the shelf and handed it to me. Seemed like the perfect rifle to start my 338LM build so I went for it and while I was waiting for background another guy came in who left to think about it and came back to buy it but missed out. They got three from Remington and sold the other two online within 5min of listing them. Needless to say I lucked out and am excited w/the prospect of finally being able to really reach out and touch someone.

I might be interested in some details of your class.

That's the hard part because supply v demand is all out of whack right now. I've seen them go for as much as $1,700 plus shipping on GB and it seems the avg is about $1,500ish.

Not sure I can answer your questions about the specifics of the DBM on this rifle as it's still a mystery to most, me included. From what I gather the earlier versions of this rifle had a 3rd mag w/bottom metal by Badger. The later versions (mine) have a 5rd DBM and BM is made by Accurate-Mag as an OEM piece for Remington.

As for glass I'm leaning towards US Optics at this point but NightForce is still an option as well as possibly a Vortex offering. I've got a little time to give it some thought and as much as these run want to make sure I make the correct purchase the first time around.

What class are you talking about? MD = Magpul Dynamics? I wasn't aware they had a precision rifle class.

I don't know when they will get more because from what Bob told me they had ordered these three years ago and just finally got them in so it sounds like they're a pretty tough item to get in right now. Sounds like several military around the world are taking a shine to them so I assume that production is going to government contracts for the most part which makes the civilian market so difficult to fill demand. Dunno.
