Just getting into pistols, and have a question. When breaking my shot should my "hard focus" be on the front sight or target? Hope that makes sense. Thanks for any replies!

I'm sure you will get a lot of different answers to this but for me if I'm shooting for groups or bullseye shooting yes I focus entirely on the front site. In a dynamic self defense scenario the extent to which I focus on your front site depends on the distance to the target. Within 7 yards or so I'm focusing pretty much on the threat. The further away the target the more I try to focus on the front site.

As the great warrior poet Ice-Cube once said, "If the day does not require an AK, it is good."
If you are shooting for maximum accuracy your front sight should be sharply in focus while the target is slightly fuzzy. (Or really fuzzy depending on your eyes, the range, etc)
I always focus on the front sight.

Thanks for the responses guys, yeah I've been doing it pretty much ass-backwards. I'm gonna see if I can find some formal pistol training here in Iowa or close abouts.

"Everyone has been given a gift in life. Some people have a gift for science and some have a flair for art. And warriors have been given the gift of aggression. They would no more misuse this gift than a doctor would misuse his healing arts, but they yearn for the opportunity to use their gift to help others. These people, the ones who have been blessed with the gift of aggression and a love for others, are our sheepdogs. These are our warrior"

If you are just getting into pistols, I would say yes. You need to learn how to shoot accurately before you can do anything else, and accuracy means locking your eyeballs on the front sight.
At a certain point, improving your overall pistol skill means learning how "hard" that focus needs to be for a given shot, and learning how to achieve acceptable hits when you're more "aware of" your sight than "focused on" it.
