One thing in the article jumped out at me.

As with any biker club, the Pagans probably included some disreputable people in their ranks. Derek was emphatically not one of them.
The Pagans are a criminal organization. Plain and simple. It's not like they're are only a few of them, the author of this article is clueless.

First mistake SGT. Hale made was associating himself with the Pagans. I would like to think he wasn't involved in any criminal activity, maybe he was just naive. But for all anyone knows he could have been involved in criminal activity. Life is all about choices, and unfortunately he chose to join the Pagans and with a little common sense should have know better. I'd like to give the SGT. Hale the benefit of the doubt though.

What the Police did though was absolutely wrong and they need to be held accountable. He didn't deserve to be executed there on those steps in front of his family, regardless rather or not he was involved in any criminal activity. It's just a sad incident all around and should give people pause when they decide who they're going to associate themselves with.

It seems that you are perpared to believe what the reporter wrote in the article as gospel. Having been the brunt of one sided liberal biased reporting for several years I'm certainly not ready to take what is printed in ANY newspaper as fact with out several other sources to back it up (and that does not include other media sources).

It's popular to make aspersions and disparaging remarks about Law Enforcement, it sells papers. Journalists no longer report the facts, the sell papers. Damn the facts and don't let them get in the way.

He was a member of the Pagans. You would need to be seriously sheltered and unaware to not know their history and the background of the members. Careful choices of your friends can avoid many of life's little problems (heavy sarcasm added here).

At face value it looks bad...somehow I think there's more to this story...

I agree, if you click on the source link at the top of the article you find that this article is an editorial on a libertarian website. Hardly an unbiased news source. A simple google search of the sergeant's name provides several reports on the incident from more reputable news sources.

In addition, it seems that most of the facts from the editorial come from a Washington Post (liberal) article about the widow's lawsuit where all of the facts concerning the incident are taken from the lawsuit itself. The lawsuit, of course contains only the family's lawyers' version of the event. It seems the police declined to comment, which is common in an ongoing investigation.

From what has been reported thus far it does look bad, but we don't have all of the facts as to what actually took place. As Joe R. said, it is popular to make aspersions and disparaging remarks about L.E. and everyone is always quick to jump on the bandwagon. However, without all of the facts it is irresponsible to jump to conclusions and pass judgement.

The gun owning public despises the media and is extremely distrustful of anything said by the media- until it comes to cops, at which time they fall to their knees and accept the same lies written by the same people.

Add to that the fact that anyone who can recognize a firearm 2x out of 3 is an immediate expert on all police procedures.
Grow up guys. He was a Pagan- a member of a criminal organization. The facts of the case are not something that will be accurately addressed by the media, and i can't comment on what happened as i have no direct knowledge- and neither do you.

Save your "going after them" stuff and get a life.

Stupid people doing stupid things in stupid places generally attract the attention of the police, the media and the shysters.

This case will play out in the courts. Objectivity is not the forte of the media. It is about making money, and driven by their agenda.

    Gentlemen,

That article is hardly a fair and unbiased media report. It's an editorial on a Libertarian website. Let's not let this get out of hand because we do not have the facts to make a judgement either way.

Besides, you guys know that the one thing the media does is sensationalize any Police incident regardless of how minor. I just witnessed it first hand here in Norfolk and let me tell you, the facts were completely ignored and the media played off the emotions of the black community to spin the story into something it wasn't simply for readership ratings.

If someone had creditable sources please post them but let's hold off on the lynch mob here, okay?

Typical liberal trash. There may well be something wrong there, but I wont take it for gospel from that author.

And for the record, the pagens are a completely criminal organization. They fancy themselves part of the 1%, or those bikers who live beyond the law and outside of civilization. My old man worked bikers some in the first part of his career as an LEO, you dont get into a club like that for being a nice guy.

Now if there was wrong doing in what happened there, i hope those cops get the book thrown at em, if not, then i hope they dont.
    Dont sweat the small stuff.

In addition to his honorable military service (albeit in a consummately dishonorable war)
Delaware was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution. It may be the first state to be afflicted with a fully operational death squad
Last Friday (May 23), the Rutherford Institute – one of the precious few nominally conservative activist groups that gives half a damn about individual liberty
Those who persist in fetishizing local police – who are, at this point, merely local franchises of a unitary, militarized, Homeland Security apparatus – should ponder this atrocity long and hard.
Derek J. Hale survived two tours of duty in Iraq, a country teeming with Pentagon-trained death squads, only to be murdered by their home-grown equivalent.
This infomerical was brought to you by the John Birch Society. Listen I am all for liberty and defending the Constitution to my dying breath, but when you believe in your heart of hearts that law enforcement is nothing more than the facist arm of repression you have lost touch with reality.

As we love to lampoon the nut jobs on the extreme left, the guys on the extreme right are just as scary and some times more dangerous. William Norman Griggs falls in that group. That was nothing more than a slimy hit piece with a clear political agenda. It isn't worth the electrons wasted to read it.
