The writer of the story is not a liberal by any definition. Griggs is a card carrying member of one of the most extreme conservative groups in America, the John Birch society.

I suppose if the political spectrum was circular in this county the further you get from 360 in either direction from the mainstream, the closer the extremes become in their idealolgy. You'll never hear either group say so but they both share a bitter hatred for government and those in a position of authority, albeit for totally different reasons.
