YEA... everyone has to deal with this shit.

Oh you're just being homophobic not wanting to take a shower in the same 'shower room' with a gay dude...

I wonder how some of these people would feel if their daughters joined the military, and then had no other option but to take showers in a room full of guys. They'd probably be pretty pissed. But if you're a straight male they don't see an issue doing the same with gays.

So cops, EMT's, and firefighters are taking showers with gay guys everyday, and sleeping in the same room with them?

I guess this is news, but there are gays working as police, firefighters, and emt's. No they do not have separate bathrooms, or bunkrooms. I have worked with females on the fire department and they do not even have separate bunkrooms.

FF bunkroom is a bit different than a barracks room. You don't live in the fire station do you?

Ive slept in the same room as females but that was because there was no other option, and everyone was in there together while out training. No one was getting dressed or changed in there. Where available sexes are supposed to be separated. And I'm sure it would be against all kind of rules to make opposite sexes get dressed in front of people. There has to be some measure of privacy.

Many latrines and showers are in the same room in the military. Many barracks still have open showers - maybe 1-2 per floor, and you are getting dressed and undressed in view of other people. Again...you going make a straight male get undressed around gays? Some places its just a room with shower heads spaced a few feet apart. Again you going to make a straight male hop in the shower with gays like that? Sharing a place to crash for the night is one thing. Cohabitation, showers, etc are a different story, and there really isn't anything comparable in the civilian world.

Another thing- all the piss tests. Would you find it acceptable for a gay male NCO to be an observer with a unit of mostly straight males? By the books you are supposed to see the urine exit the body.

Being on duty for 24 hours or more at a time is what I would consider living there, so yes.

Yes this is true. BUT you are confusing opposite sex and gay, a gay guy isnt of the opposite sex.

Many HS's, colleges, gyms, and plenty of other places have open showers. There are NO different locker rooms for gay and straight people that I have ever heard of, so yes they are getting changed infront of each other.

Well I guess that is no different that a doctor doing it, and yes the doctor can be gay.

If you are in the military you are already doing everything you are bring up as issues, you are living with, showering with, changing in front of gays. The change in the rule would change nothing, except the fact that gays couldnt get kicked out if someone finds out they are gay.

Opposite sexes are separated because its a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen. Its no different than being gay. I doubt any LE or fire departments are forcing people of the opposite sex to undress in front of others or live with them. A 24 hr shift, and sleeping over night is not the same as sharing a living room with another person where you are actually changing in front of other people. A place to crash is not the same as a barracks room.

I doubt most people would feel comfortable showing with gays. Call it homophobia if you want. People are separated because they don't want people leering at them. Doesn't matter if its a gay male in a shower with straight males or a straight male showering with females.

I also doubt most straight males would feel comfortable with a gay doctor checking them out down there.

I realize gays already do serve. I never knew any or they were very good at keeping it quiet. However its a far cry from allowing openly gay people in en masse, and I don't agree with allowing any gays in closet or not. Not because I don't like gays its that it opens up a host of problems the military should not have to deal with. No its not the same as black people.

Most people have conservative social values. This includes not feeling comfortable being nude around gays or people of the opposite sex who are not your wife/husband/so. Not everyone believes in some sexual freedom fantasy of everyone showering together, sleeping together, etc. In all those situations your described there is the option to simply not take a shower in the locker room or any place else if you don't feel comfortable doing so. You just simply wait until you get home or somewhere else. In the mil you do not have that choice. Your home suddenly has gays in it taking showers with you there, too.

This type of shit is why many people do not like gays. Because instead of keeping their habits to themselves they constantly feel the need to project their homosexuality onto others, and throw it in peoples faces. They want to openly serve in the mil, and then force people to take showers with them who do not want to. Force them to live in the same room getting dressed 2-3 times a day.

Actually the problem is that even when they keep their habits to themselves and never project their homosexuality on others, if they are found out by doing something OFF-DUTY they get kicked out of the military. That is where the dont ask, dont tell policy failed, gays get kicked out for either being seen by someone or someone calls in just to get back at them.

The rest of your post is purely homophobic. If everyone acted mature and professional in the same way that is required in every other job there would be no problem.

    Well there's the problem.

If you are equating the military to High School then you really shouldn't be discussing this.

Maybe you haven't heard yet but our military is tasked with protecting our country and eliminating our enemies. In order to this effectively it is imperative that the group get along not only for the benefit of our country, but also because their lives can hinge on this fact.

The biggest problem High Schoolers have to worry about is how they are going to get beer on Friday.

Maybe you missed the fact that LE/FF/EMTs deal with it, and if you think lives are not on the line with those jobs you should not be discussing this.
