What is wrong is that people are getting fired for something that did not affect their job performance and did not happen on the job, even when they did not violate DADT.
One benefit is money. Money is spent training someone, if they are kicked out someone else has to be trained to replace them. Plus add in the money spent on investigations, and all the other crap that goes along with kicking someone out.
People have a basic human right to decency, and not being forced to expose themselves to people who may be sexually attracted to them.
THE SAME REASON MALES AND FEMALES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SHOWER TOGETHER. THE SAME REASON MALES AND FEMALES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LIVE IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER.
Forcing straight males to shower with gay males who may be sexually attracted to them is not at all an acceptable thing to do. Do you have a wife? How would you feel if she were forced to shower with lesbian females day in and day out? How would she feel?
Or do you just believe in some mass shower/cohabitation BS where no one has any privacy, decency, morals, etc? Either that or you are just being difficult for the sake of being difficult.
Are you gay?
People smoke pot OFF the job, and it doesnt affect them on the job. They get kicked out.
People belong to gangs which doesnt affect their job performance. They get kicked out.
People get DUI's which does not affect their job performance. They get kicked out.
People have discipline problems off duty. They get kicked out.
People get overweight, and they get kicked out even though they do their jobs just fine, and even pass their PT test above average.
Its called military standards, order, and discipline. Don't like it? Don't join or GTFO if you already are in. Its not main st USA.
Belmont let me phrase this differently. When you were in the military you were forced to shower with gays and sleep in the same room with them. What would change if DADT was not there?
Still gays.
You still shower with them.
You still sleep in the same room.
I don't recall saying DADT was right either. It allows closet gays to cohabitate with straight males betraying their trust in their fellow soldiers. I've lived in close proximity to other people the majority of the time I was in. I both Kuwait and Iraq we were in 6 man team rooms with 3 bunk beds. I would not feel comfortable having a gay person in the room the same way it would not be acceptable to have a male living in a female room. Again...people have a basic right to privacy from people who probably are sexually attracted to them. I dont care if its straight males with gay males, males with females, lesbians with straight females, and two gays still have a right to privacy from each other.
Either don't let them in, and if we are....make them shower and live separately from straight males. But this brings up another problem. Can you make two gays shower and sleep together? Or do they get their own shower time and their own room?
I also maintain a flamboyant gay will probably not be accepted into a combat arms unit. Sure quite a few people don't care. Many do. Its a lot different than a support unit.
DADT should be done away with. As I said it allows people to violate a certain amount of trust and respect when you allow a gay to keep it quiet, and will probably see other males nude quite a few times while they are in the military. So either don't allow them in at all or they need completely different rooms and shower/latrine facilities. If they cause a disruption in the unit they need to get kicked out just the same if a straight male/female caused a disruption in the unit. And yes even straight people get counseled if their sexual habits cause a problem.
Why do you think all gay guys are sexually attracted to you? Do gay guys hit on you a lot or something?
