    ABSOLUTE COWITNESS

Ihad this setup with eotec it seemed alright as long as i had the rear BUIS in the down position because I had the option to rest the center dot on site post or to let it float above and get full advantage of reticle it seemed to defeat the purpose when the rear BUIS was up if you have to put the dot in the rear site aperature on top of the FSP what is the advantage of optic ?I now have aimpoint in lt mt 1/3 cowitness it no seems i have two sighting systems ,no sight post to interfere, with dot of optic i can see above and below the dot on my target why would someone want absolute cowitness with fixed buis it does,nt make sence to me .AM I missing something with this systems. Or does1/3 just make better use of the optic I wanted to keep the fixed fsb for stability and strength other than that I think a folding fsb would give better field of view for optic.plase explain differances and advantages of absolute cowitness if you disagree or is this system just to let you know your RDS i still sighted in // THANK YOU \\

You probably should have posted this in the optics forum but no sweat, I'm sure it will be moved there shortly. I'll first say that I am in no way an expert, your post seems a little jammed together so forgive me if I skip something but I'll try to make a few points.

Ignore the sights when using a RDS. You do not have to align the dot with the sights, be it front, rear or both. Too many people seem to get drawn into this. Put the dot on your target, that really is all you should worrry about.

IMO, an absolute cowitness works best with a folding BUIS being folded. If an absolute is ran with a fixed BUIS or a deployed BUIS then the sight picture gets a little too cluttered for my tastes. To me the biggest advantage of an absolute cowitness comes into play when/if the RDS goes down. You simply use the RDS as a VERY large ghost ring, center your FSP and engage your target. You should be able to do this pretty seamlessly and it should be effective in the short-medium range (0-50, maybe stretching to 100).

Also IMO, a 1/3 cowitness may give slighlty better down range visibility due to more of a heads up position. It will have a less cluttered sight picture which will probably work better with a fixed/deployed BUIS. If using a folded BUIS then the RDS can still be used as a large ghost ring, just remember it will align in the lower 1/3 of the RDS and may or may not have quiet the range of an absolute when used in this manner.

I currently run an absolute cowitness with a folded BUIS and do not have any problems with it. Just remember to do a little training with the RDS turned off, using the RDS as a ghost ring (which I need to do more of myself) However, on my next set up I will be going with a lower 1/3 cowitness. My absolute set up was done about 5 years ago and I've thought about changing it to a lower 1/3 but I'll wait and do my next set up first. My absolute is on my LMT, which my wife will inherit when I get my 6920 set the way I want. I'll then let my wife decide if she wants a lower 1/3 or keep the absolute cowitness, being so much smaller than me, I've got a feeling she may want to keep the absolute cowitness. We'll see.

With all this being said, I will venture another opinion and say that I think the lower 1/3 is probably far more preferred than an absolute cowitness. Again let me say I am no professional. I've ran the absolute for a few years but have only been exposed to the lower 1/3. This was a mix of my observations and opinions. I will now step aside and let more informed people weigh in.

    Good luck.

What you describe with your EOTech sounds perfectly normal to me. When your using a red dot or holographic site you dont need to pay any attention to your iron sights at all.
