    lazy eye blues...

Yeah. Working on weak hand transitions sucks. My left eye is lazy and I can't shoot left handed without closing my right eye. Shooting off my strong hand with both eyes open is possible, my brain just tunes out what my left eye sees. So, shooting strong handed with both eyes open or left eye closed is effectively the same for me. Shooting off my weak hand is nearly impossible. With lazy eye, your brain is taught to tune the lazy eye out. Anyone feel my pain?

Most people I know (who are not cross dominant) close their strong eye when shooting weak side - including me.

We can work on this in May!

haha... yeah... i close my strong eye when shooting weak sided... it's rough knowing that i will never be able to do it "right". it's different with pistol, i've been shooting pistol for years and consider myself relatively competent. i can shoot strong or weak sided... however, i don't pay a whole lot of attention to the sights in ccw or practical application training.

Oh my... I was going to ask you "who taught you that?" but I seem to remember you mentioning it before.

This past weekend Hackathorn had us switching hands and eyes on the weak side with pistols to minimize our profile behind cover.

*If* you can use your sights, then use them.

The method that allows you to aim and hit the fastest is the best technique.
Avoid trying to emulate others until you have gained proficiency in the basics.
This is not to say that aspiring to shoot with both eyes open is a waste of time, as practice using a weak part will make that part stronger and more usable, but simply that result is of greater importance than method.

I can shoot from my weak side with both eyes open, but I have to concentrate and shoot real slow. Not sure that would be good in a firefight!

I always dreaded support side shooting. but I found out at a class that i shoot tighter groups and more accurately from the goofy side. Just work the barricade and you will find a solution

With lazy eye, you can't use your weak eye. Your brain teaches you to only see through your strong eye. If you close your strong eye, everything shifts. So, I can manage with weak eye as long as my strong one is closed. Both eyes open, only strong sided. It can't be trained, either. Really sucks.

I've got the same deal (I was lucky to not have any visible clues that my left eye is lazy). If I am looking at a poster and quickly cover my right eye with my hand, I can watch as my left I brings it into focus. Quickly cover left eye and there is no change.

When shooting a pistol it's no big deal as I seem to be able to keep both eyes open at farther distances while still getting a really clear sight picture.

With a rifle and a red dot it's another story. When I shoot offhand I have to close my right eye to make my left eye focus. I've been practicing a pretty strong squint in my right eye with mixed results. I can see off to the right, but can't always get my eye to focus through the dot without my right eye taking over.

As with anything, practice so that you come to know your limitations.
