There is at least one knife grip that puts the Axis lock right under the thumb for right handed users. A modified rapier grip (with the blade horizontal) places the thumb right on the lock. The lock can also be released with the inside of the thumb with a normal hammer fist grip.

If you like the Axis design and are comfortable with the possibility of the blade closing on your fingers when you need the knife the most, that is your choice.
I'll try and avoid getting into rapier fights instead.

Of the 3 types of locks in question the Axis is the only one which I haven't had inadvertently unlocked on me.It was the primary reason I was looking for an alternative to begin with.

Can someone send me the link to the super fantasy ninja knife fighting website.

Actually, seriously, can someone point me to a general knife fighting website. I am currently at the steak cutting ninja level and I'd at least like to learn some basics.

Unfortunately, my 940s get used more for Talbot's box opening for my wife, anoying gray tie cutting in childrens toys packaging, and the occasional weed hari-kari in the front garden.

My wife cringes at our kids birthday parties where I pull out my 940 and pop it using centrifigul force to get the blade out. DIE gray tie!!!

Just handled the 741 Onslaught today. That is one big folder. It felt great in the hand whether forward or reverse grip (not sure of the right phrase) but is quite large. I will be very interested in a smaller version. I saw it at a Benchmade retailer so they are shipping.

Nice, looks like I found something to sideline my 550HG Griptilian (that has a round thumb hole, btw - see pic below, right smack in the middle)

    FMCDH,

Check out Michael Janich's site, http://www.martialbladeconcepts.com/.

Funny, I almost bought the 550HG but I went with the 555HG instead...the size is perfect (that's what she said).

Now if they could get back in bed with Emerson and put a "wave" on it I'd be set!
(I do think the name, and texture on the grip, are both gayer than aids, but I'll make do)
I know this is an old thread but have you (rob_s) or anybody else used one of these knives? I am asking because I am in the market for a new EDC and saw one of these in a local shop. I have narrowed my choices down to a spyderco delica, delica wave, mini-griptilian, or one of these bone collector editions because of the d2 steel.
