I tried a Pearl Gray marked bag of Rit dye and the mag came out forest green...
I have seen examples online where Pearl Gray came out close to Magpul Gray. I would guess it's related to time and temp of immersion.
Hopefully my new bag of gray is gray...

Your best bet is to find a website selling the base plates themselves and using them to test different color combinations, soak times, etc. Also, you may look into frost gray as well. I used it on my BCM wolf gray furniture because it was way too light for me and it darkened the furniture without adding a blue tint. Not sure how it would work on FDE/Taupe polymer though.

I'll try both the taupe and the frost grey.
I discovered a big difference between Cherry Red and Scarlet Red. Cherry has a blue-base and comes out ugly while the Scarlet comes out awesome.
Just trying to figure out what to use to cut the taupe to end up with teflon-finish-like-grey.
I've got nine PMAG covers to work with for now lol.
