How hot does the barrel get?

Does anyone have any idea what temperature the barrel reaches during rapid semi-auto fire, for example, during a carbine course. Thanks guys.

Pretty dang hot (not to be a smart butt, either). I have no temperature reference, I just know that you don't want to touch the barrel without a glove on.

It definitely gets hotter than two rats f@#*'in in a wool sock.

It depends on a number of different factors.

1100°, and you need a new barrel...

I was shooting with a rail that was not covered and after about an hour we got into some rapid shooting. Daum... the rail was so hot I couldn't hold it. Had to dig out the covers and finished without any problems. I guarantee if you touched the barrel it would instantly scorch your skin. Not sure if the ladder type rail covers would've helped much.

Dude - try full auto - not good - many a gas tube melted - honestly, one of the top reasons for a piston upper. Doh! Let the war begin - piston vs di, fa vs placed shots, etc.

OK - so this is barrel, not action/gas tube - still gets hot - no need to debate piston upper.

Also hot enough to boil water and burn off oil. I've even seen them catch on fire on a few FA drills.

I can't imagine how hot the barrel actually is temperature wise when the ejected brass is hot enough to scorch and peel skin on contact.
