Seriously - not only had what you said been covered and refuted in the thread already - it's been covered and refuted many, many times on this site. So do yourself a favor and read more while posting less. It'll will unclutter the forums by a factor of one.

Whining in a forum that people have seen your thread, but not replied, reeks of an odd brand of desperation. - Me

Titling your thread "To XYZ or Not to XYZ" will cause me to completely ignore your thread.

Having a quality 1:7 barrel will lend you the most versatility in terms of mission and ammo selection. There is no real reason to select a 1:9, IMHO.

    Wow!
    I should have made popcorn!

I really didn't think this was such a touchy subject. I figured to be slammed for wanting a piston driven AR but I really just wondered if the the difference between 1/7 and 1/9 meant holding a 2" group, a 6" group or missing completely at 200+ yds with 70+gr loads.

I love the AR platform. I shoot it well(enough for me) but I have never liked the fact that DI sh1t$ where it eats. Thus my decision to go piston. The piston guns that have the other features that I want are only available with 1/9 barrels or are priced at $2000.00+

I have also been bitten by the bull pup bug and may consider an FN FS2000 or possibly even (gasp!) a Kel-Tec RFB(now the flaming will really start!). Though the price point may eliminate either of these as real options.

This purchase is more for a range toy than for serious SD/HD. My homestead wouldn't make a decent turkey shoot range. Not much need for sniper accuracy here. I have shot guns-a-plenty, a Marlin 30-30 lever and more handguns than most PO-PO. I think I have protection covered.

Oh BTW, to whoever posted that I would been seen as a wannabe for going piston...I am a wannabe in this arena. I wannabe totin' an AR. And I wannabe havin' fun at the range. And I will never be shooting in competition or have the time to attend any serious training. Oh and I really don't give much of a damn what anyone thinks of me. I would however like to get the best quality and bang that I can afford. Which is why I asked the original question.

Unclutter an already cluttered 5page thread that was solved before the first page was finished and then beat into the ground and deteriorated into an ego boosting, chest beating, opinion toting rant by all parties involved on a subject that has been heatedly debated at nauseum by gun enthusiasts in every forum known to man? This thread is the same crap I encountered at TOS, and the very reason I migrated here, to get away from the idiocy, but I see no one site is immune. Practically speaking, 99.5% of us are a bunch of self professed know it alls who will never in a lifetime come close to needing the benefits of 1/7twist over a 1/9. But to solve everyone's problems, get the 1/7 for multiple reasons already listed by everybody and their brother, but don't hate on the 1/9, both will do the job.

Oh, and Roger dodger Captain Dooley. I have one for you, "contribute more, criticize less." I'm out, this has turned to gheyness.

Wow. Anyway no the 1/9 will not always do the job. Especially if that job is shooting heavy bullets.

I gathered this from your original post, but it seems like no one else actually read it, or asessed your true requirements.

I knew it would go down like this too.

You could post, "Hey, I'm a casual shooter who runs a few boxes every 4-6 months... should I buy this Bushmaster from a guy at work? It's a good deal..."

And you'd probably get 5 more pages of, "NOOOOO!!! Don't do it! Save your $$$!! Bushmaster will let you down when it counts!! BCMBCMBCMBCMBCM..."

Part of giving good advice is asessing the requirements before making your recommendation. Shaping the requirements to meet your recommendation is... well... the source of a lot of our problems in the Military.

I just wanted to say how disappointed I am with this thread. luvmy40 is someone most of you have probably heard mentioned here on this forum before because a lot of us love and use his holsters. I emailed him the other day about ordering a new holster and he asked me about our conduct here and directed me to this thread.

Guys, we're better than this and we should not scare industry insiders away with arfcomish behavior. We all have our own opinions and experiences and while we may not agree with each other we still need to be polite, professional and respectful.

Luvmy40 is new to ARs but very well known for handgun holsters. Instead of acting like we should welcome him and make him feel at home.
