So..anyone else trying to get back in the military?

It's not as easy as I'd have hoped.

I was told by my recruiter that no one is allowed to go straight back to active right now. First I have to go reserves, then build up a "resume" so that when I request to go back active I'll have a higher chance for success.

That "resume" for me would be:
-Go back to "A" school since I'm cross rating from AM2(Aircraft Mech) to CM2(Seabee).
-Volunteer for a deployment.
-Get a current PRT score and Eval under my belt.
-Try to complete as many PQS's as I can.



Anyone else going through or been through this?

Ask a different recruiter station. Another person might tell you something different.

A friend of mine went back active Air Force around the same time I got my AGR slot. It may take some work but it can be done. That recruiter is probably just shilling for a reserve recruiter because prior service doesn't help active duty recruiters points wise.

I spoke to Gunny at the OSO about becoming an officer in the Corps. I was grandfathered during active duty for my tattoos (none below the elbow, barely visible in PT gear or Service Charlies), but was told I couldn't have them as an officer.

I'll be talking to the Army ROTC personnel next fall.

I was just a little angry yesterday when my swear in date was pushed back yet another month. I don't know the recruiter's side of the story. Maybe someone's paperwork just came back g2g a day before me and filled the quota. If so, who knows how long he/she was waiting.

Appreciate it, I'll pass for now though. Come to find out an AD2 I knew back in my first squadron is now an ADCS on recruiting duty. I got a hold of him on Thursday and he's getting some info for me. Even if he can't help me being out of state, at least I know I can trust the info.
