That thought has crossed my mind, also.
I sure hope you are wrong, though.
Why would they attach it to that bill though? I don't see how there is any relation.
That type of stuff is SOP in Washington.
The current emergency spending bill has tons of unrelated stuff (ie: millions of taxpayer dollars for peanut storage research)
But for right now- the climate is right. The Dems know than can not keep playing chicken with military funding and maintain support of the middle. However they can make the socialist left happy by dismantling the 2nd Amendment. The doves on the left are scared of guns anyways, and the hawks are probably also gunowners. It is only an upside for the Dems.

The Contemporary American Liberal (really a classic conservative on all issue save social behavior) is very proud of their stand on disarming citizens.
I'll bet they do a stand alone anti gun bill.

ENOUGH!!! Laws don't make a difference to the lawless!
I read though the entire first MSNBC piece and it looks like dems are gun shy, no pun intended. I skimmed the CNN piece and same thing.
If they push this though they know they will loose congress and the White House in 08. They care more about getting power than gun control. Now if they win big in 08 that's another story.
I reading several VT stories this morning I was slightly encouraged to see some politicians saying we needed time to figure out what happened and why it happened before we make a rush to judgement about gun laws.
That's better than I expected to hear...maybe I have low expectations of those people?
Either way I'll be drafting letters to my congress-critters today.
