Question Best all around .45 silencer

    Gents,

Looking at getting a dual use silencer for my 220 and my UMP, any thoughts or ideas. I looked at gem tech and realized that the UMP silencer works on a different principle then the browning recoil of the my 220. However, due to costs and time to get it registered a can that I can interchange would be stellar. Also my focus would be on reliability/ function of the weapon and size reduction more so then a few decibels here or there.

    Thanks,

    29

I'd say either SWR HEMSII or one of AAC's .45 suppressors from what my research indicates. The new TiRant has the best dry suppression at this point in time. I'm also considering Thompson Machine's QMF as I shoot alot of lead and it can be cleaned, however, needs to be shot wet. This forum will definitely be your friend on all things suppressor related. www.silencertalk.com/forum/

What about Gemtech? I've thought about getting one for my Glock 21.

Titsworth at silencerresearch.com tested eight 45 cal suppressors in August of 2009, inlcuding 3 from AAC, HemsII, gemtech blackside, Yankee Hill and Knight.

The test includes videos decibel readings for wet and dry for each suppressor.

Bad news is it cost 30 to join the sight, but if you are going to drop $200 for a stamp and $600 to $1,000 for a can it is worth price of admission.

Only the Ti-Rant and Osprey are truly ear safe when shot dry in .45. That would automatically make me pay the extra $$$ for one of those two.

AAC Ti-RANT has been tested to be the quietest, it is an awesome can.

The osprey is OK, certainly the only other can with performance in the range of the Ti-RANT, but to me it is a complicated copy of our BlackBox prototype.

The other thing is you mentioned using it on a carbine- I think that that tubular design looks better on a rifle. You uses it on a pistol as is, then you simply replace the spring inside the mount with a "fixed barrel spacer" and throw it on your carbine.

    Sweet setup.

    I vote the Osprey.

And Jason, SilencerCo listened to the masses and saw the importance of a new age eccentric can and they made one. Its too bad the blackbox never made it to existance...It had clean lines and would be such a high seller AAC would never catch up on orders.

Agreed. I can only say the BlackBox is not dead.
