    Yeah, be patient

Listen to these guys. Don't spend your money on junk parts. The MOE mag pull hand guard is nice. Had one on my rifle for a whlie. If you're interested, you can pm me and I'll make you a good deal. But do yourself a big favor and don't buy really low-end gun parts, no matter what type of gun it is. My first experience with red dots was a tru-glo, that I had on an AR for a few weeks. Thought it was a great optic, took it off the AR and put it on a 10/22. On the 91st day of owning it - 24 hours after the warranty expired - the reflector went bouncing between lenses. And the company wouldn't replace or fix it. So spend wisely. No, I haven't been on this site long, but have been around a bunch of ARs

Steve, a year ago I decided that I was going to build the AR of AR's. I was going to do it myself and save a fortune. I had this epiphany before I found this site. This was also in the middle of the Obama panic. Unfortunately I had already placed a few orders from different places and had received them, then I found M4C. My rifle turned out okay. I bought a few items twice to correct the mistakes I made but that is okay because I knew this was going to be a learning experience and I was here to learn, boy, I had no idea how expensive learning could be! In the end my "save a fortune" build ended up costing a couple of thousand dollars but it ended up a capable platform that will keep the zombies away from dawn till dusk, as long as I feed it magazines. This site is an incredible resource; make use of it. Learn from it.

SOMEONE PLEASE POST THE "OOPS... I JUST BOUGHT A..." THREAD. i can't find it.

ok... i'll keep this short-ish... i need to be in bed, i work early... but i am afraid you will make some fly by night internet purchase. you said you won't use lights and lasers... forget about owning a rail right now. most .mil guys are still running the standard m4 handguard... JUST LIKE YOURS. if it is good enough for them, it is good enough for you. also, forget scopes/sights even exist... you will make another mistake if you're not careful. the p.a. sights are decent, but you will spend the same amount of $ in batteries as saving up to buy an aimpoint in no time. save and buy an aimpoint c3, end of story. go with the magpul mbus right now, you'll need it even with a scope/sight. we don't even know if your rifle is serviceable... you NEED to make sure your bc/g is properly staked. how about your receiver extension castlenut? see, there are more important things at stake, here (pun intended ) please, return your rds to walmart, they will take it back. take that $25 and put it towards the magpul mbus. then let's make sure everything is serviceable. remember... scopes and rails are just a figment of your imagination.

    Steve,

I remember my first center fire rifle. I bought it for my 19th Birthday - it was an HK 93A2. I paid a whopping $608.49 for it, (still have the receipt somewhere). It took forever to arrive in Salem, Ohio...The gun dealer had never even seen one. When it arrived, I drove down to pick it up and found a group of guys standing around the counter - staring into the styrofoam. It was like magic....

I'm 44 now, but not too old to remember your sense of excitement. The 1980's didn't have "Mall Ninja Central" and didn't have an internet forum with great advice on it. I didn't have people, (patient and impatient alike), to guide me through the process of this new world I stepped into. A few days later, I was on the phone with HK in Chantilly, VA - I had snapped the cleaning chain off in my barrel. They were great - patient, amused, semi-critical and generous with their advice. I learned a lot from them and in my subsequent phone calls to HK - especially when I bought my first center fire pistol, (HK Vp70z), the overriding message I got was much like the messages you're being given here: Slow down, relax, enjoy your new rifle.

Don't let anyone embarrass you for your scope choice - you bought it on a whim and most of us will admit to doing so. Get yourself some irons and save up for the scope. Frankly, I'd skip the flip-up for now and get a carry handle, but as others have said - stay away from junk. You have a nice rifle there - get a feel for it. You may find that a railed handguard, lasers, lights and gadgets may be unnecessary. If you must have room for a light, buy a pice of rail section, or pick up a Magpul MOE hand guard and add those things as you find them needed. Keep reading, keep posting, keep asking and most of all - keep shooting!

Enjoy your new ride - may it be the first in an excellent series of journeys....

He's looking for a scope. Battery life won't come into play for him.
