PT Barnum in full effect...I'm not sure mine even twangs at all...If it does, I don't notice it - now I'll have to check - great.... Between this and the "are these sight ears normal?", I'm going to lose my mind....

People really do get wound up in silliness....

    Wow... now that's dumb.

You guys have to remember, though, that not everyone who shoots an AR uses it for work or HD. Some people only shoot it for fun.

A long time ago someone convinced me this was something I should do. It quieted the spring a bit but made a huge mess with grease oozing everywhere. BAD IDEA! In the end I realized the spring noise never really bothered me anyway.

As with others, I kind of like the spring noise, if I even hear it.

But in the absence of further information I have my doubts that this thing even accomplishes its purpose.

Does Tapco sell these in all the familar colors?

If they put a Magpul symbol on it I am sure it would sell like hotcakes...just saying...

I know this now, but despite better judgement, I tried a homemade accuwedge before. This stuff is too easy to sell, just as any other industry does, create a problem and sell the solution. Thanks to The_Katar I am all better now!

I love the "twang," or better known as "sproing." It's the sound of freedom. I don't ear it in carbine tubes, but it becomes very noticeable in rifle length ones. I don't see how this piece of plastic is going to reduce the sound.

I can see the adds now:

    Range report!!

After much long research and development we came up with this idea to help mitigate power problems associated with the M16A4 weapon used by todays military. After firing over 10,000,000 rounds without cleaning, lubing, resting, or reloading we discovered that our accuracy improved to less than 1/64 MOA at 1000 meters and 1 shot kills were scored each and every shot. The elemination of the noise makes all the difference in the weapons and the government is going to retro fit its entire arsenal with this incredible product. You should but 3 in every color to be the best shot in you club.

    Yes, it works.

Problem is it also goops up the tube and spring and that can be a detriment to proper function.

Also, keep in mind that that hole at the back is to let water escape when the rifle cycles if it is submerged. Block it, and I'd bet you could have issues.

If you want to try it, you don't need much grease at all. Just a very light coating on the spring.

I've done the grease thing in the past, but eventually just ended up cleaning it out. The "sproing" can be distracting at first, but I got used to it after some rounds down the tube. Now, I don't even hear it (and that's not because of hearing loss)

I'm no expert, but I took my CCW course at a Holiday Inn Express
