I understand that some folks have sent in their pieces, had them coated and received them back. I think my observations are based on seeing this all before. And they seemed to be in pain over the higher overhead on individual orders versus tooling up for a good run on say, machine guns.

The discussion I am refereing to is less towards BCG as it was the elusive 'drop in' part kits for 1911's. Best left for another thread.

Still, glad you got yours and not surprised to hear the news.

After a few delays, I finally got to the range. The rifle shot pretty much flawlessly.

The only problem I ran into was when I switched from M855 to PMC 55gr .223, it was short-stroking every 2 rounds. I have the BHI upgrade kit so I was running a Sprinco Extreme Duty Buffer Spring and the DPMS rate-reducing buffer (0.2 oz shy of an H3) so before I loaded up the .223 I figured I'd have to replace the original H buffer with the weaker rounds--and I was right. After that it shot weak .223 and heftier M855 just fine.

Bottom line is Geissele hammers with FailZero coating are GTG (once they start coating individual parts once again).

Cleaning the EXO-coated parts was a breeze. I only put about 100 rounds downrange today, so they didn't even need cleaning that badly, but after looking at the BCG, I'm definitely feel comfortable running it dry and dirty for hundreds, if not thousands of more rounds.

    Awesome!

Sounds like something I'm gonna have to do.

Did you happen to measure the trigger pull after you got the hammer back? I'm curious if the coating has any effect on it.

On a related note, I have an SSA and emailed failzero about buying their BCG and trigger. They told me if I sent back their hammer along with mine, they'd coat mine for free. I'm not sure if this applies anymore since they are "offline"

Unfortunately, I don't have anything with which to measure the trigger pull. I can't tell the difference before and after, but then again there was a 3-week period between the first install and test and when it came back coated. So who knows. It was a brand new trigger, so I wasn't used to it before and will really only ever know the 'after' feeling.

They only went 'offline' a week or so ago. Can't hurt to call them again. Coating a hammer seems world easier than coating a bolt or carrier group, so you might still be gtg. Also, check out Ranier Arms for buying the BCG.

I confirmed that they stake the gas keys properly before shipping them out to you. When I got mine it looked like the standard FailZero staking (piss poor) but when I called customer service, the guy swore up and down that they must have just missed mine and he offered to ship out a replacement that day. I opted for a refund and send my Noveske BCG in for coating, instead. So who knows. But you stand a better chance of getting a properly staked BCG from them than straight from FailZero.
