    It looks as if there was a high spot that made contact and wore the finish off. The striations could be tool marks under the finish. The only way to find out is to purposely remove more of the finish and see if there are tool marks beneath it. As to why it did not show up sooner, an out of spec cartridge case head or some debris under the extractor may have caused it to pivot "open" more than it normally does and the high spot on the extractor rubbed on a lug in the extension.

    Also like Quib wrote, it is not a critical area and I would not worry about it.
