Why aren't we using the M4 design with the....

    7.62X39 round?

After watching this video it is clear that the M4/M16 series is more accurate than the AK series.

Why don't we just chamber the M4/M16 in 7.62X39 and be done with the whole stopping power issue?

Any M4/AR15 owners with the 7.62X39 out there care to chime in on their rifles accuracy?

Because "stopping power" is a myth - I thought we all knew that?

We also know the ballistics and terminal performance of the 7.62x39mm vs. NATO 5.56mm.

That horse is dead and beaten.

7.62x39mm AR. Worst of both worlds.

Colt tried just that quite a few years ago...it didn't work.

And as previously stated, isn't needed.

A friend of mine had one of those 7.62x39 Colt carbine. You couldn't get more than 7 or 8 rounds in the 30 round magazine and make it feed reliably. He eventually sold it.

As far as 7.62X39mm AR's go, The SR-47 is a great idea, but only for the functionality of a battlefield pickup rifle for SF. Considering "we" are usually in conflict with AK-equipped enemies, and the fact that there are 320+ million AK's, and therefore pretty close to 1 billion mags in existence, the usefulness is evident.
However as a former Marine, who spent 9 months as a range NCO at Stone Bay, I can praise the virtue of a 62gr bullet that can hit a man-sized target @ 500yards, using iron sights, not to mention the fact that the M16A2 you were shooting needed to be re-barreled eons ago, and is shinier than the Lone Rangers six shooters from the lack of parkerizing/bluing. Give me your nicest AK-XX shooting 7.62X39mm and you will be hard pressed/lucky to get on the paper, let alone black with it. Add a stiff 5mph cross-wind, and now you are talking science-fiction.
Long live the Black (albeit shiny) Rifle!

Isn't the AK's biggest fault is the design compromises accuracy? I didn't think the round was at fault I thought it was the design of the barrel and bolt system.

Quality control of Com-Block ammo is not what we are accustomed to in the states.

Of course having said that current quality control of state side ammo is no longer what we are accustomed to here in the states...

Ammo quality is more of a factor than people think. Get a good ak like a Valmet and some Lapua and report back.

7.62x39mm has a really weak wounding profile. It also has the ballistic trajectory of a flying pumpkin.
